Following a defeat to the undefeated Shepparton Bears in round eight of Goulburn Valley League netball, Kyabram has found itself on the bottom of the ladder halfway through the 2025 season.

The Bombers hosted the Bears as part of the WorkSafe Country Club Game series and would’ve cherished handing the visitor its first loss of the season.
Unfortunately, that wouldn’t be the case — but it wouldn’t be without a decent fight.

Kyabram was unable to settle in the first quarter, with a myriad of changes to the side leading to a six-goal Bears lead at the first break.
The Bombers amassing just six goals in the second period allowed for Shepparton to increase its lead to 14 by the half-time siren.

Following the major break, Kyabram put its best foot forward and played a strong attacking quarter of netball, goaling 13 times to creep up on the Bears.
However, the Bombers could only get so close to Shepparton, who still put in a 15-goal third term to lead by 17 with the final frame looming large.

The Bears tightened the screws on defence down the stretch, limiting the host to just six goals while they turned it up down the other end, finishing their day with 17 shots finding the back of the net.
The final score was Kyabram 31 to Shepparton 59.

Monique Williams was adjudged best-on-court for Kyabram for her defensive effort as goalkeeper.
While a 28-goal defeat wasn’t the result the Bombers were looking for, being able to tango with the best the GVL has to offer for half the game will stand them in good stead heading into the back half of their campaign.
