Following that first win, the Bombers were winless for 10 rounds before travelling to face the Saints at Benalla Showgrounds.
While it knew the Saints were beatable, things were not looking good for Kyabram in the first quarter, being outscored 10 goals to 14 by the first turn.
While it wasn’t a great chasm between the two sides, the Bombers had work to do to recover, piling on 11 goals to nine in the second period to cut Benalla’s lead to a pair of goals at the major break.
Following half-time, the Bombers got busy in attack, stringing together a 16-goal effort while limiting the Saints to 10 to snatch a four-goal advantage with a quarter to go.
With a second victory for the season now within its grasp, Kyabram took it to the next level, fending off Benalla’s advances to outscore the Saints 11 goals to 10 and not just protecting its lead, but extending it.
The final score was 48-43.
For a young side with little experience in the top flight, the victory proved that the Bombers are capable of playing with maturity and grit to jump out of last place into 10th on the ladder.
If Kyabram was able to snag a couple more wins down the stretch of the home and away season, there is potential for the A-graders to leapfrog Rochester and finish the 2025 season in a respectable ninth position.
To achieve that, the Bombers will need to beat lower-seeded Mansfield and at least one of Shepparton Swans, Shepparton United and Echuca, who sit above them in sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively.
First cab off the rank will be a date with the Demons in round 15 at Kyabram Recreation Reserve.
