A triple-figure goal tally had club officials rushing for the record books as it was revealed only once before had any Bombers team scored 100 goals or more.
The Bombers not only outdid teams in their division by achieving the feat but bettered the 92 goals that were scored by Echuca A-grade earlier this year — producing a 102-18 win against Euroa at Kyabram Recreation Reserve on Saturday.
Bottom-of-the-ladder Euroa lost to the Bombers 80-24 earlier in the season but was overwhelmed as goaling sensation Natasha Dodos swung into action.
She set a new personal best when she helped herself to 91 goals, given plenty of opportunities to score by goaling partners Jemae Miller and Isla Carver.
Kyabram’s Under-17 team will go into the finals as the fourth-ranked team, on track to face Echuca in an elimination final in two weeks.
They have another opportunity to add to an already impressive percentage when they face off against the third-bottom team — Benalla — in the final home-and-away round on Saturday.
Eight players were involved in the memorable afternoon, defenders Stella Trezise and Charli Westerveld combining to allow their opponents just 15 goals in three quarters.
Kyabram shot 32 goals in the final term to pass the triple-figure tally, Dodos responsible for 29 of those.
Carver again showed her versatility, spending a half at centre, before moving to a wing and ending up alongside Dodos in the goaling circle.
• Kyabram’s A-grade players won plenty of fans with their performance against top-of-the-ladder Euroa, a strong defensive effort restricting the competition yardstick to 50 goals.
Jasmine Reid, Jemma Hall and Caitie Minger worked hard to restrict their opponents and, in two of the four quarters, the Bombers were just four goals in arrears.
Euroa won the match 50-27, having doubled the Bombers’ output in the first quarter and led by 11 at half-time.
Jayda Richardson shot 12 of her team’s goals, while Alyssa Trebilcock worked hard in a supporting role.
The team has a chance to finish on a high, with a third win for the season, when it faces 11th-ranked Benalla on Saturday.
• This weekend’s result will decide whether Kyabram’s B-reserve team becomes the third from the club involved in this season’s finals series.
After winning by a goal against ninth-ranked Euroa on Saturday, the Bombers are one win (and less than two percent) outside the final six.
They won the match 36-35 after coming from behind and outscoring Euroa 12-7 in the final term.
Euroa led by three at quarter-time, by six at half-time and then by four at the final break.
Kyabram has won eight games this season and had the one draw, one win behind sixth-ranked Shepparton, a side that has a final round appointment with top-of-the-ladder Seymour.
If the Lions continue their domination of the competition and Kyabram beat second-bottom Benalla by a reasonable margin they will be finals bound.
• Kyabram B-grade’s sixth win of the season came courtesy of a 39-goal display from goaler Micaela Herbert.
She shot all 12 of the Bombers’ first-quarter goals as the team set up a four-goal lead, which was cancelled in the second term when seventh-ranked Euroa reversed the scoreline.
Kyabram, one run below Euroa on the ladder, then won the second half 25-17 and finished with a 45-37 victory.
Monique Williams and Jayda Richardson were outstanding in defence, while Caitie Minger’s mid-court work allowed the team to maintain ball control at critical times.
Richardson and Minger both played eight quarters of netball for the afternoon.
Kyabram has the team directly below it on the ladder this weekend, Benalla, and will be hoping for successive wins to end the season.
• A final round win for Kyabram’s Under-15 team will secure it fourth spot entering the finals and a meeting with either Mansfield or Shepparton Swans.
The fifth and sixth teams are equal on points, but both play teams below them on the ladder in the final round.
Kyabram disposed of 10th-ranked Euroa on Saturday in a 59-43 victory, despite being outscored in the second term after leading by seven at the first break.
Hannah Messenger started on target, shooting 12 of her team’s 15 first-quarter goals and finished with 44 goals for the match.
She had support from Isabella Pate, who shot 15 goals for the morning.
A third-quarter effort when Grace Kilpatrick and Miley Morris combined with Ella Hooper to restrict Euroa’s opportunities set up the team’s 10th win of the season.
