Beattie, who is a member of two top-of-the-ladder teams with the Kyabram club this season (in GV midweek and weekend pennant competition), has a second round bout with Shepparton Park’s Sue Tyson.
Sixteen club champions are competing in the event, which will be staged on Wednesday and Thursday. The event is being hosted by Stanhope Bowls Club and both the semi-finals and final are on Thursday.
Beattie will be favourite for the match, given her form this season, having gone deep in the mixed pairs event with husband Geoff.
Tyson plays as a lead bowler with her club’s fourth-ranked midweek division team and in the same role with Park’s division one weekend pennant team.
She is the 12th ranked leader in the GV’s top weekend competition with a 4-4 win/loss record.
Beattie is this year contesting division one in the midweek competition and is in the all-conquering Kyabram division two weekend pennant team.
She bowls as third to Mary Greco in the midweek competition and, with a 6-2 win/loss record, is seeded seventh overall as Kyabram leads the eight-team division.
In weekend competition she is again part of a ladder-leading team, bowling as third to John Hausler and seeded number three after nine rounds with a 6-3 record.
Stanhope teenager Jorja Ponton has an opening round match with Shepparton Golf’s Kristine Wright.
Wright is a skipper with Shepparton Golf’s second-ranked division one midweek team, ranked 13th with a 5-4 record this season.
Ponton has a 4-5 win/loss record as a lead bowler in the Stanhope division one weekend pennant team.
• Kyabram club champion Mal Williams will not contest the men’s champion of champions title, forfeiting his opening round match on Sunday.
Instead he will be contesting the honourboard fours championship at Kyabram on the same day.
Stanhope’s Tim Hancock will carry his club’s hopes into the event that is this year being held at Shepparton Golf Bowling Club.
Hancock has a 3-6 win/loss record this season in the division one weekend pennant competition and faces Alexandra’s Larry Scott in the opening round.
Scott is the second-ranked third bowler (third seeded overall bowler in GV weekend division five) and boasts an 8-2 record with his top-of-the-ladder team.
