The win, inspired by pace bowlers Sam Langley and Jackson McLay, has the Redbacks sitting on top of the ladder, 10 premiership points clear of the second-placed Central Park St Brendan’s, which faces a tough final round assignment against Numurkah, which will also be trying to lock-in a spot in the finals in the final home-and-away round starting this Saturday.
Kyabram demolished Mooroopna’s last six batters for 34 runs when the game resumed at Kyabram last Saturday, wrapping up the visitors’ first innings in 43.3 overs for 61 runs.
Langley and McLay did the damage, picking up nine wickets between them.
In deadly and economical spells, Langley finished with 5/25 off 16 overs with six maidens while McLay finished with 4/25 off 18 overs with seven maidens as Mooroopna fell well short of Kyabram’s score of 181.
The other wicket-taker for Kyabram was spinner Louis Sabbah Holt with 1/7 off 4.3 overs.
But a push for an outright Kyabram win was thwarted by the visitors, who dug in and reached 8/138 off 47 overs in their second innings before the game was called off.
Spinner Alec Young had picked up 3/22 off nine overs and Sam Langley 2/27 off 10 overs at that stage.
Last year’s premier, Waaia, currently sitting in seventh place, will be relying on Kyabram to beat Tatura in the final home-and-away round to defend its crown.
Tatura is three premiership points ahead of Waaia in sixth place.
