In what was anticipated as a one-sided affair before it even began, the round 12 Kyabram District League match between table topper Murchison-Toolamba and wooden-spooner Merrigum was exactly that.
The Bulldogs, travelling to Murchison Recreation Reserve, remained scoreless through the first three quarters, unable to generate any attacking momentum against the Grasshoppers’ elite defence.
As its defence did its job, Murch’s attack hummed along at its blistering best, nailing a staggering 13.14 through the first half.
A 10.15 third term effort meant the Grasshoppers held an eye-bulging 157-point lead heading into the final frame.
After battling for the majority of the game, Merrigum finally got opportunities to put points on the board, but wayward kicking meant it had to settle for a pair of minors as its only contribution to the score.
Meanwhile, the Grasshoppers continued on their merry way, nailing eight goals down the stretch to record a breath-taking 203-point victory, the second largest of the 2025 KDL season to date.
Murch’s James Lloyd kicked a staggering 12 goals in the contest, spearheading the victory, while Merrigum’s Brayden Hall was his side’s best performer.
The Bulldogs will get a chance to breathe in round 13 as they fave the bye and will return in round 14 to face Stanhope at Merrigum Recreation Reserve.
