The Bulldogs were held scoreless in the first quarter while the Eagles found their feet, kicking a trio of maximums but sending 10 chances at goal for a point each.
Merrigum’s struggles continued into the second period, where the side remained scoreless once more, while the Shepparton East found its groove, nailing eight goals to blow the lead out to 79 at the major break.
As the Eagles continued to unleash their fury, drilling nine more goals throughout the third term, the Bulldogs finally got on the board, sneaking a goal and behind through, doing little to quell the now 129-point deficit.
Another goal to Merrigum did little to stop the onslaught of attacking power the Eagles continued to show, finishing their day with a tidy 5.2 quarter.
The final score was Merrigum 2.1 (13) to Shepparton East 25.18 (168).
The 155-point defeat is a humbling reminder for Merrigum on how far it has to go to reach the top of the KDL.
Jayd Gash and Mathew Macansh were the only two players to kick a goal for Merrigum with Tom Cooper, Darcy Collins, James Ross, Mathew Macansh, Shelby Ludlow-Lambrick and Brayden Hall featuring in the Bulldogs’ best.
However, all is not lost for the Bulldogs as they will have a shot at redemption at home against Violet Town in round five.
