Rode was runner-up in last year’s Calder Cannons best and fairest count, playing on a half-back flank and in a ruck roving role for the NAB League team. He is currently training with VFL team Coburg.
He had 21 disposals, four marks and nine rebound 50s in the first week finals’ win against Eastern Ranges.
Rode joins Toby Wooller, another former NAB League star who won the Oakleigh Chargers best and fairest in 2017, and former Hawthorn draftee Will Golds as the prize off-season recruits.
The latest recruit is a different shape to 193cm Wooller and tall midfielder Golds, standing just 171cm and tipping the scales at 67kg.
He turned 18 last Monday (December 5) and played 13 games with the Calder Cannons last season, including two finals matches.
He also played with Northcote Park and is a former Wallan junior player.
