Chase Brisbane, 13, won his third bout in style in a competition in Melbourne’s north-east, defeating a top quality opponent heading off to nationals.
The rising youngster made the trip to Bulleen, but was tasked with an experienced boxer in his class, however, the burgeoning talent fought as if he were the fighter in the nationals scene.
The fight was won after stoppage in the third round, as Brisbane laid three significant blows to the head of his opponent, which at school boys level qualifies for automatic stoppage and the win to the hard-hitter.
“He beat him with speed and beat him to the punch,” Harrington said.
“He won the first and second round clearly and then put an end to it in the third round, which is a massive showing for the young boy.”
The Mooroopna product has been training at Goulburn Valley Boxing Association under Harrington’s wing for two years, but Harrington said an underdog victory would do wonders for Brisbane’s intrinsic belief.
“He will take confidence out of a really clear win,” Harrington said.
“He won it on his own terms, he didn’t just scrape to the line and win by points.
“Going forward he can hold his head really high that he won in that fashion against someone going to nationals.
“He’s just got to stick with it now.
“Boxing is 80 per cent mental and, now, he will have the mindset going forward he can compete and beat any opponent in front of him.”
