Kyabram’s bowlers had Mooroopna 6-91 but late-order knocks swelled the home team’s score to a respectable 8-169.
Kyabram’s Tom Holman in his first A-grade game for the club had Mooroopna on the back foot early with three wickets before left arm off-spinner Darin Ohlsen chimed in with 3-10 off nine overs.
But skipper Luke Zanchetta and Jake Wright produced respective knocks of 48 and 30 not out late in the innings in what proved a match-winning stand of 57 for the eighth wicket.
Kyabram had 47 runs on the board without loss in its run chase but when opener Paul Newman fell for 34 off 37 balls Kyabram crashed to 6-70.
Cade Mueller and Kyle Fitzgerald provided hope with a 61 run-stand for the seventh wicket, but once Fitzgerald fell for 29 the last three batsmen could only muster six runs, leaving Kyabram 23 runs short in its run chase.
