Tongala trots trainer Michael Watt certainly made a flying start to the Boort Cup meeting last Sunday.
Watt trained the winners of the two opening events on the card.
First-up winner for Watt was the lightly raced pacer For A Reason gelding With In Reason who broke his maiden status with a bold front running display which landed him nearly 14 metres winner over the runner-up, the Craig Turnbull trained Treacherous Jewel.
It was only With In Reason’s seventh trip to the races which have now produced one win and three minor placings.
Watt and stable followers barely had time to celebrate With In Reason’s triumph when another of his team, trotter Pocketoflollies, also shed his maiden status with a dominant win in race two.
A three-year-old filly by Peak Pocketoflollies parked on the pace in the run and once into clear running in the home straight pulled clear of her rivals for an effortless win at her twelfth try.
Punters were almost as pleased as connections with the wins of With In Reason and Pocketoflollies as were odds-on favourites. Both were driven by top reinsman James Herbertson.
X Kyabram concession reinsman George Chamouras had a big week last week with winners at Cranbourne and the Boort Cup meetings.
At Cranbourne Chamouras made the most of his first drive on pacer Highview Hammer.
The concession reinsman had the Corey Bell trained five-year-old Huntsville gelding parked on the back of the pacemaker Chansu throughout the 1609 metres event and surged clear of his rivals near the finishing line.
It was Chamouras’ first drive on the pacer who has now won five and been placed seven times in his 38 career starts.
The Bell-Chamouras team also struck again at last Sunday’s Boort meeting with pacer Community Art.
Chamouras was also having his first drive on the pacer who beat the Kyabram trained favourite Eye See Philtra.
