The encouraging signs for Kyabram against Benalla seemed to be lightning in a bottle as the side struggled at home again in round five of Goulburn Valley League netball, this time against Mansfield.
The Bombers were favoured going into the contest with Mansfield without a win after round four, but they quickly changed as the Eagles got off to a hot start.
Finding the back of the net 15 times in the first quarter, the Eagles were rolling while locking up the hosts, who tallied eight goals to start their day.
Kyabram improved on its first quarter tally, bagging nine in the second period, but it was Mansfield that kept charging on, nabbing 13 more to take a double-digit lead at the major break.
While the Eagles pulled away in the third term with 16 more to their score, while the Bombers remained consistent, chugging along with another nine goal effort.
Kyabram finished its day with its most productive quarter in attack, hitting double digits in goals (11) for the first time in the match.
However, it wasn’t enough to stop the soaring Eagles, who pulled 16 out of its bag to fly away with the victory.
The final score was Kyabram 37 to Mansfield 60.
The Bombers are in for an uphill battle when they return in round six as they take on 2024-runner up Echuca, which despite also struggling will look for a percentage booster at Kyabram Recreation Reserve.
