To reach the NSWCHS Netball Championships in Wollongong, the Deniliquin High School netball team secured victory at the Riverina knockout held in Albury.
Their remarkable performance earned them the title of the top team in the Riverina.
“The championships, held last Thursday and Friday, were a true test of our team’s skill, teamwork, and determination,” said coach and Deni High teacher Alex Glowrey.
The squad comprised Annie Harvey, Matilda Glowrey, Kate Westcott, Bonnie Everett, Mia Parks, Phoebe Jefferies, Makayla Finn, Hazel Glowrey, Emma Parks and Ava Richards.
“They showcased their exceptional talent on a grand stage.”
On the first day of competition, the team played seven games, each comprising two 13-minute halves.
“The results were a testament to their skill level and determination, with victories against Menai, Kadina, Bulli, and Blaxland,” Alex said.
“The impressive performance secured our place among the top four in our pool.
“A well-deserved rest and recovery session got us ready for the next day, where we faced off against the top teams from both pools.”
The games on Friday were full-length matches, highlighting the prowess of the athletes.
“Each member of the team played a vital role, contributing to the team’s success in each of the games,” she said.
“Deniliquin High School finished an incredible eighth in the entire state.
“This achievement marks the highest position the school has ever achieved in this championship.”
