Openers Paul Newman and Miller Griffiths set up the Flames for a big score with a stand of 105 but lost nine wickets for only 64 runs to be out for 169.
After Newman had clubbed 63 off 66 balls with nine fours and a six and Griffiths had made a determined 34 off 72 deliveries only skipper Jake Gascoyne with a fighting 29 made it to double figures as James Keath (4/23), Simon Tatt and Josh O’Shea, both with two wickets, cleaned up the Flames innings.
But the Brigade’s bowlers led by Jackson Barnett then hit back hard to dismiss LG for 131 in 40.3 overs.
Opener Tyler Jones with 64 off 91 deliveries (six fours and two sixes) against his former team and Jye Keath with 28 were the only LG batsmen to make it to double figures as Barnett (3/22), Kaine Herbert (3/22) and Brenton Sheppard (2/28) pulled off the win for the Flames.
Kyabram Fire Brigade, who sit fifth on the ladder, host sixth-placed Cohuna Nondies on Saturday.
Cooma’s 139 runs were no match for BLU who replied with 4/140 to secure victory at Cooma.
After winning the toss and batting Cooma lost opener Rob Trewin in the first over but skipper Jake Kelly and Ethan Palma mounted a fightback.
But when Palma-Ludeman was run out for 13 and Kelly for a top score of 36 only Matt Darvill (20), Liam Scopelliti (13) and Hugo Bell (18 not out) were able to offer any resistance.
Josh Cairns and Declan Pearse, the seventh and eighth bowler used by BLU, both picked up three wickets as Cooma fell in 37.1 overs.
In reply, BLU with Werner Brand (55) showing the way, and well supported by sklpper Regis Chakabva (30) and Luke Thompson (25 not out), achieved victory in 20.3 overs.
Tongala’s batsmen again failed to fire, all out for 94 against Nondies Cohuna in the game at Cohuna.
Skipper Alex Williams promoted himself to opener and made 22, but that was the top score in the Tongala innings.
Ryan Smith (16), Matt Ohlsen (14) and Luke Smith (13) were the only other batsmen to reach double figures for Tongala.
Earlier Nondies had made 175 with Archie Sussex leading the way with 70 off 90 balls with 10 fours and a six.
Rory Knight with 4/27 off six overs and Alex Williams with 2/20 off eight overs were the pick of the Tongala bowlers.
Echuca flexed its batting muscles in its much anticipated clash with cross town rival Echuca South.
Sent into bat Aidan Young with 78 and opener Curtis Townrow (66) and Kobyn James (56) swelled the reigning premier’s score to an impressive 9/276.
Noted big hitter Townrow smacked 10 fours and two sixes off only 43 deliveries while Young’s 78 came off 66 balls with two sixes.
Akila Senanayake was the most successful South bowler with 4/17, but by the time he took the ball the damage had been done.
In reply, South struggled to 9/132.
Opener Jayden Rosin top scored with 32 and got most support from Asantha Singappuli (22) and Rathika Rajakumara (23), but South’s middle order failed to fire.
Moama’s 6/239, highlighted by a century from opener Fraser Buchanan, was never threatened by the Rochester batsmen, out for 146.
Buchanan and Joel Murphy (43) put on an opening stand of 81 before Anthony McMahon with 49 also kept the runs coming for Moama.
None of the top order Rochester batsmen could get going and Oliver Williams with 29 and Brad Major with an unbeaten 24 late in the innings made the top contributions as coach Michael Hill showed the way with the ball for Moama with 4/18 off 4.6 overs.
