Sports snaps
Members, officials and supporters of four Kyabram Football Club premiership sides had a day to remember last Saturday.

All of the flags came 10 years apart with the Kyabram thirds making history with their win in 1965.
The John Roberts 1965 Kyabram thirds team won the flag in the first year the competition had Shepparton clubs and Mooroopna competing.

It was the first time the GVL’s third competition had the Shepparton teams and Mooroopna competing.
Greg Caldwell skippered the side which was coached by the late John Roberts, who guided the side to another flag the following year under the captaincy of Greg Brunt.
It was Peter Lyon’s turn to soak in the euphoria of a GVL senior flag when his Bombers beat favourite Euroa in 1975 to end a 17-year flag drought.
In 1985, I was lucky enough to be coaching a very talented thirds team which rebounded from a second semi-final loss to Seymour to beat it in the season decider.

Then 10 years on in 1995 former Kyabram senior star defender Mick Ryan landed the first of his two flags when his team, captained by Mick Glover, beat the Shepparton Swans in the season decider.
Premiership coaches and captains of the flag-winning sides were expertly interviewed by Tim Nelson in a ceremony to acknowledge the wins prior to the Kyabram-Shepparton Swans clash.
This history and the number 5 co-incidence now begs the teasing question: Will 2025 produce another flag with three Kyabram footy sides likely to play finals?

Not a bad way to start your career as a senior footballer.
Cooper Fawcett made his well-deserved senior debut with Kyabram on Saturday against Shepparton Swans and with his first kick slotted a goal.
It was the only goal Kyabram kicked for the quarter, so Cooper shouldn’t have too many worries recalling it in the future to anyone who wants to listen.

Couple of blockbuster footy clashes coming up in the region this Saturday which should draw big crowds.
In both the Goulburn Valley and Murray leagues the top two sides clash.
Unbeaten Kyabram will try to stretch its winning streak to 11 when it travels to meet second-placed Rochester which has lost only one game.
In the Murray league second-placed Moama tackles the unbeaten white-hot flag favourite Congupna in a game with plenty of Kyabram interest.
Moama has first year coach Liam Barrett at the helm, while another Kyabram premiership player and noted goal-kicker Kyle Mueller will line-up for Congupna.

As a walker Kyabram-trained Bitta Irish Luck makes a good trotter.
Trainer Mick Blackmore revealed the six-year-old Father Patrick mare’s training routine mainly involves getting fit in a water walker rather than working on a track to keep at race fitness level due to back problems.
‘‘She might get a hoppled run once a week on the track, but her training is mainly done in Brett Bunfield’s water walker at Merrigum,’’ Blackmore said.
‘‘She is a mare that seems to find a lot of troubles, but when she is right she is a nice trotter.’’.
The water walking training is obviously working as she motored home to win at last Saturday night’s Melton meeting.
Bred and owned by Kyabram’s Darrel Pell and driven by record-breaking reinsman Chris Alford, Bitta Irish Luck singled out with Mac Maoris in the concluding stages with Alford’s decision to go to the inside around the home bend proving a winning move.
Bitta Irish Luck rated a PB 1:59.5 mile rate for the 2240m trip to hoist her seventh win with nine minor placings from 39 starts.
Her prizemoney has now exceeded $65,000.
Blackmore said suitiabe races were going to be hard to find from now on for Bitta Irish Luck, but she could go around again at this Saturday night at Melton.
