Star players in Zac Cerrone, Sam Vick, Luke Davies and Sam Jackson are back after stints with GVL clubs and Billy McLay and James Lovison will also be fresh faces with plenty of experience this season.
McLay has joined Cerrone and Vick from Kyabram and will help cover the Wombats’ main losses in star onballer Cam Simpson, who has moved to Queensland, and fly-in Queensland player Nick Kellow, who won’t be returning this season.
Ruckman Sam Jackson, who has been playing with GVL club Shepparton United, has also returned to the Wombats’ nest, along with another former player, Nick Ross.
Defender Nick McAuliffe is not playing this season, the second year Nick Ryan will be coaching the Wombats.
Ryan is confident Lancaster’s ‘ins’ will more than compensate for its losses and said he would be disappointed if the Wombats were not one of the major contenders for this year’s flag.
Lancaster lost year’s grand final to Murchison by two points and Ryan said his team was hungry to avenge that agonising loss.
