Fifteen-year-old Chris Ford was selected in the Victorian schoolboys team after being the best player for Goulburn Valley schoolboys at the state carnival.

Melbourne Football Club captain Greg Wells presented Ford with his award, the son of Kyabram Councillor Bill Ford the first footballer to be selected in the state team since Les Whyte in the 1950s.
– Kyabram ruckman John Lilford was named the Bomber of the Month and accepted is award from Russ Howell for the second time this season.
He polled six votes to win narrowly from Greg Kirkman and Tony Andison.
– Kyabram’s 1975 premiership coach Peter Lyon has made a comeback as a player, cleared to play with Marong in the Golden City (Bendigo) league.
The comeback will, however, be short lived as the 37-year-old was planning to play in only two games for the club. His comeback was for two reasons, the first to play with his two brothers for the first time — former Kyabram player Alan and younger brother Graham.
Graham is captain of Marong, which was at the time coached by Lyon’s brother-in-law, Will Thompson.
The club had not won a match in the Bendigo league since it joined the competition five years ago. They were playing second bottom Maldon in the match.
– Lancaster, Merrigum and Girgarre were all outside the Kyabram district league’s top-four teams after 12 matches.
Lancaster had just lost to a dominant Nagambie team, by 10 goals, that included four-time McNamara Medallist Eddie Shiels and former GVL star Tony Barnes. Noel Reddrop kicked four goals in the loss.
Merrigum suffered a similar fate against second-ranked Avenel, Alan Denis the best for the Bulldogs and Des Green kicked four goals.
Ardmona beat Girgarre by 50 points as Kelly Hewitt and Bob Bertoli kicked two goals each and Wayne Thorson was the Kangaroos best player.
– Kyabram Under-18 player Mick Fry was named as the regional representative for the Sunkick in Shepparton.
He won the title at a half-time event at Kyabram Recreation Reserve when 14 boys competed and Fry averaged 46.85 metres to beat Adrian Morris from Tongala.
1987
Fay Gollan took out the Valley View Ladies Golf Club Club championship title for the seventh straight year. The golfer of more than 20 years snatched the title from Doris Vick on the 16th hole, while Jenny Dixon took the B-grade title and Val Wright the C-grade championship.
– Merrigum was on top of the Kyabram district league ladder after kicking 23 goals against bottom-team Girgarre.
Coach Peter White was best on ground, while Owen Gregory and Sev Cortese kicked five goals each and Troy McCormick three.
Neil Maudsley was Girgarre’s best player, with Gary Farrow and Brian Casey in support.
Peter Edwards kicked four goals in the Lancaster win, keeping the team inside the top five, while Gus Wallis and Adrian Emini were the top players for the Wombats.
– Goulburn Campaspe representative football teams played Shepparton, with Kyabram Blue’s John Burgess the best for the Under-15 team and full-back Paul Ryan also in the best performers.
Paul Shortis was another to earn a mention, along with Tongala’s Dale Hobbs.
In the Under-14 match Shepparton’s Brenton Cooper kicked nine gtoals as the GC team was beaten by 105 points.
Haslem St’s Paul Neely did well, as did St Augustine’s player Paul Newman and Paul Nikkleson from Dawes Rd.
– Some of the names from the latest round of Goulburn Valley football were very familiar, Shepparton’s big-marking forward Darren Comi kicking 11 goals and Brian “Doc” Kennaugh best on ground for Echuca as Tony Jones kicked five goals for the Murray Bombers.
A teenage Johnny Mustafa was Tongala’s best player in its loss to Euroa, while Perry Meka kicked 10 goals for Lemnos as the Swans led the competition with a 12-2 win/loss record.
2008
Paul Newman kicked six goals in his 100th game for Kyabram, making it 38 for the season, asw the Bombers lost to Seymour by 41 points.
Kyabram sat eighth on the ladder after 10 rounds, with Linc Withers the Bombers best in the loss and Balraj Singh kicking four goals in support of Newman.
– Girgarre champion Jason Varcoe played his 200th senior game for Girgarre, running onto the field with children Sarah, Talbot and Leah.
Affectionately known as Jacko the 38-year-old was a former best and fairest winner and followed in the footsteps of father, Maurie, who shared the 1969 McNamara Medal with Tallygaroopn’a Neville Hosie.
– Shepparton’s Kate Moore won the second state par three women’s title at Kyabram Parkland Golf Club.
The 20-year-old tied with Numurkah’s Tracey Clouston at the end of two rounds and a play-off hole had to be contested to decide the eventual champion.
She accepted the title from Parkland president Marg Flint and Jenny Hoff from the state golf body.
– Aaron James missed Stanhope’s match, but led the Kyabram district league goalkicking with 71 for the season.
Stanhope sat second on the ladder after winning by 67 points against Girgarre, with Ben Coote (five), Shaun Pearce (four) and Troy Auld (three) who led the goalkickers for the Lions.
Three players kicked six goals in Lancaster’s 151-point win against Merrigum, Chris Eddy, Andrew Parsons and Troy Mitchell all bagging half a dozen.
Jason Norman led the Kyabram District League reserves goalkicking with 62 for Stanhope after 12 rounds of the season.
