The Grasshoppers did what they have been doing all season on their home deck against White Hills in the second semi-final: dominate.
The Demons never really had a sniff at taking the lead, with Colbo piling on 17 goals to nine in the opening stanza.
While White Hills remained consistent with another nine goals in the second quarter, the Grasshoppers slowed down a touch with 13.
The Demons (12) thought they were in with a chance as Colbo submitted the same 13-goal effort in the third term, but at this point the game was gone.
Settling for 10 goals down the stretch, White Hills was never quite able to catch the Grasshoppers (18), who sailed away to a 61-40 win.
With Colbo is assured of a place in the grand final, it will either be a rematch with the Demons or a date with arch-rival Mount Pleasant.
• Colbo’s A-reserve unit will fight for a place in the grand final this Saturday against arch-rival Mount Pleasant after securing a 10-goal victory to end White Hills’ season in the first semi-final.
The Grasshoppers created solid enough distance from the Demons at Lockington Recreation Reserve to tally a 55-45 victory.
If Colbo was to win the preliminary final, it would face Huntly on the Hawks’ home deck of Strauch Reserve in the grand final.
The 13-and-under Grasshoppers will also feature in a preliminary final on Saturday, coming up against Elmore after losing against Lockington-Bamawm United in the second semi-final.
While the 18-15 defeat was narrow, it will give Colbo the confidence to defeat the Bloods on their home deck on Saturday and progress to the grand final.
• Colbinabbin has set up a blockbuster preliminary final clash against North Bendigo this Saturday in Heathcote District Football League.
The Grasshoppers will get a shot at battling rival Mt Pleasant in the grand final after taking down Huntly in a thriller at Lockington Recreation Reserve.
Both teams started strongly, but it was the Grasshoppers (3.4) who created seven-points of breathing room by quarter-time.
Colbinabbin was nearly brought undone by a consistent Hawks (2.2) unit in the contest after being reduced to one behind in the second period.
Huntly led by a goal at half-time, but neither team could affect the margin one way or the other in the third period, both kicking 3.3.
However, a five-goal barrage sealed the deal for Colbo in the final frame as the Hawks couldn’t quite match it with two goals.
The final score was 11.12 (78) to 9.10 (64).
The Grasshoppers will have one more hurdle to jump over if they’re to appear in the grand final, taking on North Bendigo in the preliminary final.
