GVCA Pennant grand final at Kyabram

Winners are grinners: Brian Dudley, Terry Murphy, Alan Higgins and Leo Barry for Deniliquin.

After seven weeks of the home and away season the Goulburn Valley Croquet Association Pennant grand final was held at Kyabram, with the Deniliquin team winning it all.

Shepparton White was able to make it to the final and was competitive all day, keeping the spectators entertained to the very last hoop.

Leo Barry, Alan Higgins, Terry Murphy and Brian Dudley represented Deniliquin and the Shepparton team consisted of Wayne Comer, Rob Houstan, Pauline Phillips and Fay Hawker.

All the matches on the day where tightly contested, with six out of the 12 games being played to the last hoop, finishing 7-6.

After the first eight games of singles, the score was tied at four games, 46 hoops to each side.

In the doubles, the first two games were one win apiece, with Deniliquin ahead by two hoops.

Deniliquin went on to win the last two doubles games 7-6, putting them two games and four hoops up.

The final score was Deniliquin seven games 72 hoops to Shepparton White five games 68 hoops.
