The three-day carnival is being held on the Sunshine Coast, starting on April 11, and his selection follows a six-week Bendigo based ACI development program.
Harrison has had more than his share of cricket this season, playing a dozen matches in the flood-shortened season with Stanhope’s B-grade Goulburn Murray Cricket team, with Fire Brigade at under age level and with the GMC junior country week team.
Bendigo was one of nine country Victorian locations, including Geelong, Ballarat and Mornington Peninsula, from which the 12-member Victoria Country squad for the State of Origin event was selected.
The teenage leg spinning all-rounder will be playing in a round robin Twenty20 competition which involves Queensland, NSW, a Country and Metro Victorian squad, along with the Allies — made up of cricketers from South Australia, West Australia and Tasmania.
Vic Country will play the other four teams on the opening two days, with the knockout rounds on the final day of the tournament.
Harrison’s 2022-23 season has seen him take 17 wickets, in 17 matches, across three different competitions at an average of 14.65.
He took three wickets for Goulburn Murray in the Under-14 country week tournament and has taken seven wickets for Stanhope — playing alongside his father Darryl — in the GMC’s B-grade Bill Williams Shield.
His best return this year came in the under-14 match, while playing with Fire Brigade, claiming 3-3 in a 4.5 over spell.
He can almost claim all-round status, particularly on the back of his under-14 batting exploits. He has a top score of 36 this season and an unbeaten 31 to his credit in the under age competition.
Last week, in a rain-affected match, he top scored for his team with another red ink innings of 23. He followed that up with figures of 3-11 in Stahope’s B grade match against Fire Brigade on Saturday.
