It was two weeks after winning his first club best-and-fairest award when he told a 200-strong crowd at Kyabram’s awards night ‘’he wasn’t going anywhere’’ next year.
Murray Football League club Moama is the beneficiary of his mind change.
Things happen in football and Herbert, a dual Kyabram District League medallist and twice runner-up for the Goulburn Valley League Morrison Medal in his time with the Bombers, obviously had a change of mind.
‘‘I just felt I needed a new challenge and fresh start somewhere,’’ he said of his about face.
‘‘It has had nothing to do with money I can tell you that and family has had a fair bit to do with it.’’
With his record he has naturally been a recruiting target for many clubs seeking an elite running on-baller.
Herbert’s unexpected departure should not be criticised and his seven seasons of sterling service to Kyabram applauded.
He has been Kyabram’s most consistent player in his seven years with the Bombers after joning them from Undera in 2020 after winning dual McNamara medals in the Kyabram league.
Kyabram president John Guinan has thanked him for his grand service to the club and wishes him, along with the club the best for the future.
On a more positive note the latest regular senior players to commit to playing with Kyabram again next season are Cooper Vick, Coby McCarthy and Riley Ironside.
And the Bombers’ coaching panel has been completed with former player Scott McCormack appointed to coach the club’s thirds, replacing Mark Patten who has stepped down from the role.
McCormick is returning to Kyabram after living in Queensland for the past couple of years.
And premiership coach Corey Carver, who stepped down as senior co-coach, will fill the role as senior team manager next season.
