The Kangaroos shot 86 goals, star shooter Jacqui Gahan responsible for 68 of those, on the way to a third win for the year.
Ironically that was almost exactly the winning margin — 69 goals — for the seemingly finals bound Girgarre, with the percentage booster taking the team well inside the top four of the competition after the first month.
Two weeks earlier Lancaster had scored 82 goals against Rushworth (who managed 15 on that occasion — they scored 17 on Saturday), while Avenel and Dookie United have both had scores of 70 goals this year.
Girgarre’s percentage is second only to the unbeaten ladder leader Lancaster.
The Kangaroos have a big challenge in their next outing on May 18 (they have a bye this week), against third ranked Nagambie, before three successive weeks against teams well below it on the ladder.
It is, however, the blockbuster booking with early premiership favourite Lancaster on Saturday, June 22 that will be in the back of their minds.
At Rushworth on Saturday Gahan started in goals with Kim Hanna, who ended up spending the last term in defence.
Darcie Stammers spent three quarters acting as the feeder to the dominant Gahan.
Holly Nelson and Sheree Starling again shared the centre duties, with several changes made off the bench to rotate the players in different positions.
So far this season the Kangaroos have beaten Tallygaroopna, Stanhope and Rushworth, with their only loss at the hand of powerhouse Shepparton East.
And they lost that game by just one goal.
– There were no disappointed netball fans at Nagambie Recreation Reserve on Sunday when two of the Kyabram district league’s three unbeaten A-grade teams did battle — Lancaster and Nagambie.
At one point during the final term there was only one goal in the game and, in a high scoring contest, 115 goals were scored between the two teams.
When the final siren sounded it was Lancaster that owned the top rung of the KDL ladder, aiming to make a return to A-grade finals netball for the first time in a handful of seasons.
Lancaster won the match 60-55, trailing by three goals at quarter time, before outscoring its opposition by seven in the second term to lead 32-28 at half-time.
The margin was only three at the final break, when Nagambie outscored the Wombats team by one goal.
With 30 goals in the final term the match started as it ended, at a frenetic pace, Lancaster eventually breaking away to win by five — 60-55.
Star goaler Chicquita Vick continued her outstanding start to the year, shooting 14 of Lancaster’s 16 goals in the final term and finishing with 45 goals for the match.
Lancaster will have to wait four weeks for its next big test, with it due to tackle the only other unbeaten team in the competition to this point, Violet Town, on June 15.
Between now and then they face Murchison-Toolamba (ranked ninth, on May 18), Merrigum (10th) and Longwood (11th).
Lancaster did not make a single change for the entire game, in high contrast to Nagambie which used nine players for the game.
Only four Nagambie players spent the entire game in the same bib.
Lancaster captain Zoe Hayes worked with Charli Westerveld in defence, while Alyssa Trebilcock shot 15 goals supporting Vick in the goaling circle.
– Merrigum’s A-grade unit will be aiming to make the most of the May 18 match it has with Longwood, having lost to the unbeaten Violet Town on the weekend and facing two of the top three teams in the next month of netball.
The Bulldogs sit 10th on the ladder, with one win and three defeats, but have faced not only Violet Town, but also highly fancied Nagambie early in the season.
On Saturday the team lost 33-49, but remains only one win after the first four games as there is a log jam between sixth and 11th on the ladder.
