A brilliant game of footy with both teams playing a relentless contested style, the visitors goaling in the last 30 seconds to win by three points.
The Saints looked like taking the game away early as Rennie’s one-on-one style was absent but term two saw the Hoppers chip away to only be down by five points at the long break. It was the work of Burns and Beams around the ground, helped along by the return of Captain Cooke down back that was working with Strawhorn being the focal point forward.
The Hoppers had their chances to put the game away in term three but two goals from nine scoring shots would eventually come back to bite them. The game ebbed and flowed in the final stanza with a Bruce goal giving the Hoppers a nine-point lead with three minutes to go. Rennie were unable to stop Berrigan in the middle as they kicked the final two goals. Strawhorn ended up with six for the Hoppers.

The Rennie boys hosted Berrigan on Saturday, running out with confidence against the big Saints team. They tackled hard with Finn Wood and Harry Giblett running out of defence many times while Darcy Hargreaves, Nash Ryan and Hudson Crawford were taking strong marks up forward. Unfortunately, the Saints were a bit too strong and quick however, despite the scoreboard, the likes of Brax Ednie and Fraser Nagle never gave up showing tremendous courage putting their bodies on the line.

We were back at home this week for the clash against the Saints on a slightly wet track after the heavens opened up overnight. The message to the team was to keep the ball moving forward, have fun and enjoy getting dirty. It is certainly going to be a big week for the stain remover and washing machine.
Well done to all the Hoppers kids who pulled on a Saints jumper, showing great sportsmanship to give them a hand so we could have a fair and competitive match. Thanks to all our sponsors and in particular the team at RedAg who supply the team with the fruit and lollies each week to keep them fuelled up and running around. Go Hoppers.

A Grade
Rennie 41 defeated Berrigan 38
Rennie came out firing and took a 10-goal lead at quarter break. Youngster Sophie Coghill showcased her skills as goalshooter, having a strong presence and level head - every week she is developing and making her mark. At halftime the girls were only five goals up and some panic started to set in and some mistakes soon followed. To the team’s credit, it persisted and went back to basics - applying pressure all over the court and allowing defenders Eliana and Brylee to pick off some much-needed ball.
Midcourter Brooke McDougall ran her legs off all game and provided drive and experienced passes into the goalies. Brooke continues to apply what the coaches ask and set a high level for the young team to follow. The A Grade team have all been working so hard and have only just fallen short a few times, so it was great to get the win on Saturday.
Awards: Incentive Award - Eliana Martin; ClubMulwala - Brylee McCarty; Intersport Wingates - Brooke McDougall.
B Grade
Rennie 60 defeated Berrigan 32
In an outstanding display of teamwork and determination, Rennie B Grade dominated at Bull Plain Road, securing a resounding victory with a 28-goal lead. B grade have been working hard at training over the past few weeks, perfecting the basics and mastering plays, and it all paid off this week.
Best-on-court went to Brooke Knight who dominated the defensive end with countless intercepts and a strong positive voice down the court. Ella Goldsmith played her first game in the green for the Hoppers and did not look out of place at all. Defenders Jess Barton and Celine Collins Bye worked hard applying one-one-one pressure in the defensive end to maintain Rennie’s intensity over the four quarters.
Our midcourters worked together seamlessly, with exceptional feeding into the ring to our talented shooters. Alainah Bye, Ella Harvie and Georgia Phillips showcased textbook offensive skills with seamless plays and communication, creating many scoring opportunities. Our goalies Zoe McKenzie, Danielle McPherson and Ebony Williams all had show-stopping performances. Their movement, positioning and communication was incredible and it’s great to see their confidence and cohesion increasing each week. Well done to B Grade on all its hard work and a well-deserved win on the weekend.

What a game as part of the reunion round. This game had it all, having everyone on the edge of their seats. A long bomb in from Shez ‘Ricky Ds’ McBurnie sealed the deal to come away with a one-goal win.
The Hopperettes had a blinder of a second quarter that got them in front and set up a lead to defend until the end. Tegs and Shez were reunited in the ring, bringing the chemistry of 2023. They were well supported with the direction and front drive of Illa. Alysse and Trudie ran the centre with ease, creating lovely play. Alysse continues to amaze with being new to the sport of netball.
Edos ‘’Speedos’ Mackinnon was forever reliable in the WD position, providing great pressure and drive back down the court. Gail and Jae were solid again in defence, with terrific tips and two-handed rebounds. Young Britt showed her ability to swing from shooting goals to defending them! Top team effort girls. It’s nice to get another ’W’.

Rennie 53 defeated Berrigan 36
On this overcast Saturday the Rennie 17s were ready to roll, and in the first quarter the goals were nearly goal for goal with the Berrigan Saints. The Hoppers got a few turnovers, though, allowing the side to get a few points in front - our girls were working hard against Berrigans defensive pressure.
But the Rennie girls didn’t stop and didn’t give up. Changing a few things up, we saw Heleena come out of GD and became a powerhouse in the centre, her amazing defensive pressure skills all down the court, and her impressive reading of the play, had her making multiple turnovers- which is why she was awarded our top award!
Mykie and Luce had a run in the circle for defence and, having never played in there together, the girls worked well! Soph never disappoints with her quick movements and guidance in the attacking end, even with the rotation of goalshooters she adapts well to anyone who she plays with. Having a strong midcourt with strong front drives, all you see is the ball flowing down the court with great eyes to see for the next pass. The girls pulled away to get the win!

An amazing display of teamwork was shown by the U15s, securing themselves a nice 18-goal win. Mim, Ruby, Mia and Shell had a ripping day, all working beautifully together. Our work through the midcourt was smooth, with all the girls working the channels and clearing space. The defensive end - consisting of Kate, Tess and Sienna - worked effortlessly on the speedy Berrigan attack, pipping off floating passes and snatching in every available rebound.
Our goalies, Charlotte, Jasi and Layla were again on song, ensuring all scoring opportunities were taken. When needed these three put up a strong defence to force a turnover, with co-captain Charlotte alone securing eight clean intercepts in the first quarter. Sienna was a jack of all trades on the court this week playing almost every position but goals - showing her magnificent leadership on the court. A very well-deserved win. Go Hoppers!
