Jamieson wins O’Dwyer medal

The Blues were knocked out of the finals by Moama two weeks ago and the Murray league decided will be decided between Cobram and Mulwala on Saturday.

Tongala’s runner-up in the reserve-grade Damien Jones Medal, Todd Van Roy, will be in action in the final. He tied in second, only one vote behind the eventual winner, Deniliquin’s Aiden Free.

Jamieson didn’t miss a home and away match this season and polled in 11 games — five of those the maximum three votes.

Last year’s winner, Jamieson’s Blues teammate Coby McCarthy, polled 17 votes when judged among the best three players on the ground on eight occasions.

Harley Reid played only two games for the Blues this season, but polled in both — one vote against Moama and two against top-team Cobram.

Jamieson won the Blues’ best and fairest last year in the 12-game reduced season, having joined Tongala via Amateur club Old Scotch after two seasons as a star with Footscray in the VFL.

∎ Tongala has beaten Moama in the reserves competition on three occasions this season, twice in the home-and-away season and by 21 points in the qualifying semi-final.

The teams meet for a fourth time on Moama’s home ground on Saturday, the Blues going in with half a team that has played senior football this season.

Bryce Denham leads the list with 13 games at senior level, while Nick Woods, Bailey Cox and Daniel Maher have all made six appearances in the top grade.

Leading goalkicker Mark Watson and Zane Johnstone, who has twice kicked four goals against Moama, loom large as threats to the Magpies.

In round six the Blues beat Moama by 78 points, league medallist Van Roy best on ground with Sam Tyler and Bacon in support. In round 15 it was a much closer scoreline, Tongala eventually breaking free with a 62-33 result.

Shannon Tucker and Tyler Parkinson were the Blues’ best, another of the Tuckers —Jayden — a thorn in Moama’s side when he dominated the semi-final.

Tongala won 68-49, with Kyle Halliwell and Denham among the best.
