It was a day of competition, encouragement and community connection.
The carnival was marked by an overwhelmingly positive attitude from all competitors. Students demonstrated determination in the pool alongside exemplary sportsmanship, cheering one another on and embracing each event with enthusiasm and resilience.
The event followed Jerilderie Public School’s recent targeted swim program for students aged 8-13.
This program focused on strengthening water safety knowledge, refining stroke technique and improving stamina in preparation for carnival participation.
The impact of this structured instruction was evident throughout the day, with students displaying growing confidence, improved technique and a clear understanding of safe practices in and around the water.
The day ran swimmingly thanks to strong organisation and collaborative support.
Students from Finley High School assisted throughout the carnival, diligently operating stopwatches, supporting set up and pack down, and entering the water to encourage younger swimmers.
Their contribution added both efficiency and encouragement to the event and was greatly appreciated by all participating schools.
Jerilderie Public School extends sincere thanks to Miss Jessica Daunt and Ms Tiffany Sutton for their dedication and professionalism. Their careful planning and willingness to go above and beyond ensured the carnival operated safely and smoothly for all involved.
Three Jerilderie students qualified to represent the school at the Zone Swimming Carnival, held in Cobram on Friday, February 27. This is a significant achievement and reflects both their personal commitment and the collective efforts of staff and families supporting their development.
Teaching principal of Jerilderie Public School, Mrs Keech, emphasised the broader purpose of the event.
“As a small rural school, we place strong importance on ensuring every student is capable and confident in and around water,” she said.
“Swimming is an essential life skill in Australia. To support this, we prioritise staff undertaking Austswim training and deliver two structured swimming schemes each year, so our students continue to build water safety knowledge, stamina and stroke development.”
Jerilderie Public School is proud to continue hosting this valued annual event, strengthening both student capability and community partnerships across its small schools’ network.
