Demons 6 sets/67 games defeated Kyabram 5 sets/62 games.
Kyabram’s “Flagship Tennis Team”, KLTC Section 2, succumbed to a more tenacious Shepparton Lawn Demons combination in last Saturday’s round of GMLTA tennis.
In a highly contested encounter, Kyabram appeared to have the ascendency going into the final three mixed sets only to have their colours lowered losing all three mixed sets and eventually going down by five games.
Regan (not Ryan, not Rory) Moore again showed why he is now the dominant “number one” male player in the competition convincingly taking his men’s singles 6/2.
Moore then teamed up with Justin Wearne to outclass their opponents 8/4 in the first men’s doubles.
Mitch Cox continues a very fine season in singles to finally overtake his opponent 6/4.
The Shepparton Demons’ men did bounce back in the second men’s doubles taking a well-deserved win against Cox and Wearne 8/3.
Kyabram’s Jade Christoe produced a quality 6/4 result in the first ladies singles with Katerina Wearne just going down in her singles 5/6 in an entertaining encounter.
Christie teamed up with the experienced Abby Prycroft to record a convincing 8/4 with Wearne and Prycroft “just getting pipped” by a frustratingly determined Shepparton Demons’ combination 7/8.
Although just going down by the narrowest of margins this week, KLTC Section 2 will be eager to rebound next Saturday to consolidate their ladder position prior to finals.
Section 3 KLTC Redbacks
Nine sets/82 games defeated Nathalia 4 sets/58 games.
With the inclusion of “star recruit” James Sheppard and a “re-energised” mixed performance from the previous week’s competition, KLTC Redbacks “demolished” Nathalia by five sets/24 games.
A very strong Nathalia men's side kick started the men’s singles “shell-shocking” both Blake McMeekin 2/6 and Tyler Schade 0/6 respectively.
Although disappointed, both Ky men should note that their opposition, Dave Scadden and Anthony Wilson, have been very experienced players over three decades on GM Tennis and have always been a formidable force in singles during this period.
“Enter James Sheppard”. Fortunately, the Redbacks had the luxury of “star recruit” James Sheppard playing for them last Saturday.
Sheppard “stamped” his authority on the court from the word go with convincing doubles wins with McMeekin 8/5 and Darren Woodcock 8/5.
Nathalia took the final men’s doubles 8/4 against a determined Redbacks combination in Tyler Schade and Darren Woodcock.
In a surprising loss, Marg Haw and Susie Bennett recorded a 4/8 defeat in their first ladies doubles.
In a “standout performance” though, Lauren Bennett produced a convincing scoreline in the doubles teaming up with Sonia McCraw for an 8/3 win and then combining with Sussie Bennett to notch up another impressive 8/3 result.
After being decisively beaten in all four mixed sets the previous week, the Redbacks certainly redeemed themselves “demolishing” an always determined Nathalia with four very impressive wins.
Massive wins to Sheppard and Haw 8/1 and McMeekin and Lauren Bennett 8/2 will certainly put opposition teams on notice with finals fast approaching.
Section 3 KLTC Bombers
Thirteen sets/100 games defeated Mooroopna Cats nil sets/52 games.
In what can only be described as a “complete whitewash”, KLTC’s Section 3 Bombers destroyed their opposition on Saturday.
The Bombers did not concede a set on the afternoon.
Standout performances on the day were in the men's singles with Will Worsfold and Greg Tarrant convincingly taking their matches 6/3 and 6/2 respectively.
All three men's doubles recorded 8/5 wins with Captain Zane Sutton and young Ben Dickens totally supporting Worsfold and Tarrant during their encounters.
In the ladies, the demolition continued with impressive wins to Alyssa Christoe and Alicia Cunningham 8/1 with Cunningham then partnering Meg McConnell to record another excellent result 8/3.
Not to be outdone, Claire Mawley then partnered McConnell and Christoe to rake up two 8/4 wins.
With four equally impressive mixed results, the Bombers did not give an inch to their Mooroopna rivals.
Along with a bonus forfeit bye last week and now celebrating Saturday’s percentage-boosting performance, the Bombers are definitely knocking on the door of a finals appearance.
Providing they can produce this same form over the next few weeks, the Bombers will not only be playing in the finals but they will also be challenging all teams coming their way!!!
Big Christmas party turn-up
A big “soundout” to Susie Bennett and the KLTC Social Committee for one of the best Christmas break-ups staged by our club in, probably, the last 25 years.
A big thanks is also extended our “major sponsor”, the Kyabram Club” for its hospitality and providing such a tremendous venue for our 45-plus members who attended on the night.
KLTC will hold a special “garage sale” on Sunday, February 18, at 2 Rowlands Court, Kyabram.
The day will run from 8am to noon with an array of quality disused furniture, shelving, office desks and chairs along with numerous other items that should take customers interest.
Our club is seeking volunteer assistance on the day and president Greg Tarrant would be very appreciative if members could put their hand up to assist.
Please contact Greg on 0438 257916 if you can spare a few hours on the day. For further particulars, please go to our KLTC facebook page.
KLTC Easter Tournament: From Saturday, March 30, to Monday, April 1, KLTC will again stage one of the most successful Easter tournaments held in Victoria in the annual tennis calendar.
The success of our club’s flagship event has occurred over the last 30 years due to the unselfish support of club members, incredible sponsors and the Kyabram community as a whole.
