“We get a lot of people coming up from Melbourne and across from Bendigo to play on the grass court, which is in really good condition at the minute — probably one of the best in the region,” tournament director Mitchell Cox said.
The event will feature three days of action with doubles to be held on Saturday, March 30, singles and veteran doubles to take place on Easter Sunday, March 31, and the mixed doubles scheduled for Monday, April 1.
The Easter tournament always draws strong support from the local community in the form of sponsorship, which has continued this year.
Kyabram Club, Campaspe Shire, and Goulburn Valley Water are sponsoring the event, while Kyabram Removals and Storage and Kyabram Physiotherapy and Pilates are sponsoring the open doubles event.
“It's a great community event, brings a lot of people into the town,” Cox said.
“A lot of people stay at the caravan parks and the motels and things like that and we try and encourage people to go down to the Ky Club and spend a bit of money in the town which is nice.”
The open doubles is the premier event at the tournament and boasts a prize pool of $600 across the men’s and women’s events.
The veterans doubles is also notable in its return this year, catering to over-50 players.
Among the entries this year is club coach David Starling who will be taking on the top courts with his children Kade and Taylah.
Also notable is former Australian representative Terry Smith, who at the age of 78 will be battling in the top grades of singles and doubles.
The action continues off the courts as Saturday night will have live music by Justin Wearne at a catered dinner.
Entries will be accepted for the Kyabram Lawn Tennis Club Easter Tournament up until Good Friday.
