GM3 Kyabram Bombers 7-66 Defeated Karramomus 3-49
Following an 8-game loss last week in the qualifying final, the Bombers knew that it would take their best to earn the premiership this season.
However, the Bombers’ best is what they got in the first round of the matches.
Against a pair that won an 8-0 last week, Alyssa Christou and Taylor Sutton completely flipped the script with their brutal power to take the set away from the Karramomus pair and win 8-1.
Mitchell Cox and Greg Tarrant also backed up with a much better performance than the week before.
Despite getting a win last week in a nail-biting 8-7 the pair managed to get out of the blocks much faster to secure an 8-2 win this time around.
The first round of matches was rounded out by Zane Sutton, who was also able to flip the script against his opponent that had gotten the better of him the week before.
Sutton’s big serve and court craft to move his opponent around the court was enough to secure a 6-4 victory and give the Bombers a 15-game lead after the first round of matches, which was a 23-game turnaround from the same sets the week before.
Despite this, Karramomus began to hit back in the second round of matches, taking the lead in two of the sets, the ladies doubles and the men’s number 1 singles.
However, the Bombers were able to withstand this counterpunch and regain the control.

Mitchell Cox was able to turn around the scoreline in the singles to eke out a tough 6-5 tiebreaker victory.
The ladies’ doubles were also able to turn around a slow start to secure an 8-4 win.
Despite an 8-6 loss in the men’s doubles, the Bombers continued their winning ways, with Abby Prycroft and Marissa Hooper cancelling out that loss with an 8-6 win of their own to give the Bombers a 20-game lead going into the three mixed doubles sets.
This meant the Bombers were only four games away from securing the premiership and despite an 8-3 loss in the first mixed doubles this was cancelled out by an 8-3 victory by Abby Prycroft and Evan Cooknell meaning the Bombers were too far in front and despite a loss in the final set the Bombers had done enough to secure a 17-game win.

The win means that the club has won back-to-back GM3 Premierships with the Redbacks winning last year’s premiership, which shows the depth of the tennis club.
Taylor Sutton was crowned the best player on the day, but it was a real team effort with all eight players who stepped out on the court securing a victory at some point.
The Bombers’ Abby Prycroft was named the female MVP for the season to round out the accolades for the impressive season.
In GM2, the Bombers had come from third on the ladder to secure a grand-final place against an impressive McEwen Reserve team.
In their only match up of the season all the way back in round one, McEwen Reserve had won that match up by 32 games.
However, it was clear early that this was going to be a very different match, as the first round of matches were split down the middle with the Bombers claiming the two doubles sets with David Starling and Regan More setting the tone early with an impressive 8-3 victory.
This was then followed up by an equally impressive 8-4 victory for the experienced pair of Justine McConnell and Sheree Starling.
Despite dropping the two singles sets, these were close match ups meaning that the Bombers held a slim four game lead after the first round of matches.
In the second round the match tightened up even more, Sheree Starling continued her impressive day, securing a hard fought 6-4 victory in the number one lady’s singles.
Justine McConnell and Taylah Starling continued the girl’s dominance with an 8-4 victory.
On the men’s side, the father son due of David and Kade Starling were caught in a titanic tussle that unfortunately didn’t quite go their way with a loss in a tie-breaker 8-7.
This, combined with McEwen Reserve taking the number one men’s singles, meant that the Bombers were up by one game going into the three mixed doubles sets.
The Bombers started strong with David Starling and Justine McConnell combining for an 8-3 win, however McEwen Reserve fought back with an 8-3 win of their own which meant that the day came down to the final result of the day.
Unfortunately, the Bombers went down in a tiebreaker set 8-7 meaning that the day finished even on games and that McEwen Reserve had won on account of winning more sets.
The Bombers showed how much they had improved throughout the season, however it was not enough to overcome a juggernaut that has won the two available premierships since joining the division.
David Starling took home the MVP medal as the best player on the court.
