Ivy’s score is believed to be the lowest net score recorded at the Club.
It didn’t finish there, as Ivy was nearest-the-pin on the 1st, collecting the jackpot as well.

Kyabram Valley View Golf
Mens,
Maybe it’s the improved weather, perhaps it’s the extra run on the course, but our members appear to be awakening from their winter slumbers with a drastic improvement in scoring in the last couple of weeks.
We will start with Tuesday’s round, which provided some incredibly good scores, with Daryl Harrison and Geoff Strachan the pace setters.
Playing off a handicap of eight, Daryl put together his best round at Valley View with 74 off the stick, a score that netted him 42 Stableford points and a three-shot win from a very unlucky runner-up in Peter Mangan with 39 points.
Harro did his best work on the front nine where he had 33 off the stick, notching four birdies on that side of the course.
That is some kind of form to be in, with the club championships just around the corner.
Meanwhile, Geoff Strachan had an even better day, posting the massive score of 45 points to take out B-grade by four shots.
I’m told Strachan’s score included one wipe and two one-point holes, which prompted wily veteran, Les Hall, to catch up with Geoff with an autographed copy of his book Hall’s Hand Brake Handicapping.
Nevertheless, if he’s available for the three rounds, the ultra-consistent Strachan will start the clear favourite for the B-grade championship title next month.
Paul Pappin was the seriously unlucky B-grade runner-up, with a super round of 41 points of his own.
On a high scoring day, balls went to Laurie Radley with another (normally) winning score of 40 points, Peter Lyon with 38 points, Mick Gallivan (38) and Pooch McHale (37).
Mick Coyne (third ) and Kelly Cheong (12th ) won the A-grade nearest-the-pin balls; Fred West won the voucher on the 15th while Strachan completed his domination of B-grade, picking up both of the B-grade NTP balls.
While scoring in Saturday’s Stableford event was not quite as impressive as Tuesday, it was still excellent with John Canavan taking out B-grade with what, I think, would be his best Valley View round of 40 points.
Geoff Squires finished three shots back, taking out the runner-up trophy with 37 points.
In A-grade Pooch McHale, playing off 12, finished top of the table with 39 points and recorded a two shot win from Gordon Mackay with 37 points.
Not to be outdone, the ladies also put together some excellent scores with Sharon Harrison posting the best score of the day of 42 points, finishing just one shot clear of Trudy Denham with 41 points.
What’s more, in what is thought to be a Saturday first, the ball comp was dominated entirely by the ladies with balls going to Bev Lyon with 40 points, Nat McAuliffe (39), Judy Greer (38), Marlene Topp (37), Tracey Wade (37), Helen Emery (37) and Julie Neale (37).
Nearest the pin trophy winners were Kev Humbert (A-grade third ), Rob Geisler (B-grade third ), Lawrie Casey (A-grade 12th ) and Brad Edwards (voucher on 15th ) while John Canavan also picked up the ball for nearest second shot on nine.
This week’s event is a Stableford with the November Medal round and Club Championships set down for November 8, 15 and 22.
Valley View Women’s
It was presentation day at Valley View last Wednesday. Normally, this would involve a stroke round in the morning followed by lunch and yearly presentations, however, the forecast of rain and strong winds, led to the wise decision to proceed with our celebrations without the round of golf.
We welcomed our sponsor for our club championships, Michael Watt from M&S Accounting who made the presentations to A-grade champion, Tracey Wade and runner-up Marilyn West, B-grade champion, Helen Armstrong and in a special moment, the C-grade champion, his mother, Marie Watt and runner-up Judy Sutton. B-grade runner-up Wanda Hacon was unable to attend.
Winners at club level of state competitions included: Janice Johnstone, The Silver Spoon; Liz Haw and Wanda Hacon, The Royal Women’s Hospital 4Ball and Helen Emery and Tracey Wade, The Doris Chambers Foursomes.
Other winners of club competitions included: The Olympic, Marlene Topp; Most Birdies, Janice Johnstone; most Gobblers, Helen Armstrong; Most Pars for handicaps over 30, Judy Sutton; The Least putts average, Jenni Bauerle and Tracey Wade; The Eclectic, A-grade, Von Morris and Janice Johnstone and B-grade, Wendy Cox.
Finally, the Yearly Medal - Golfer of the Year, generously sponsored by Kyabram’s Jeweller, was won by a surprised Helen Armstrong.
This award is based on the average of a player best 10 rounds during the winter golf season. Clearly, Helen had forgotten those excellent 10 rounds.
In Pennant, the Valley View/ Mooroopna combination had an excellent win over Numurkah, 3 1/2 to 1 1/2 in round two.
On Friday, Valley View will welcome golfers from across the region to our Lally Gold Watch day.
