Brent Reiner’s team won 28-18, David Cartwright’s team won 27-16 and Geoff Beattie only went down by two to Brett Foley 20-22 in a truly exciting game. Unfortunately for Glenn Field’s team they had a really tough day where they lost too many multiples and went down 14-36 against a very dangerous side. Division 1’s loss to Shepparton Golf means they play Tallygaroopna at Shepparton Golf next Saturday in another real blockbuster.

Division 2 won their way into the grand final at Stanhope with a convincing 96-81 win at Tatura. Division 4 lost their qualifying Final 77-89 to Seymour VRI so they will play Hilltop/Tatura in the Preliminary Final at Shepparton Golf. Division 6 survived a Dookie challenge and a bus trip to Avenal to win 65-54 and book a place in the preliminary final against Euroa at Nagambie.
Division 2 were led by Noel Reddrop’s team who had a magnificent day only allowing their opponents 10 shots up to the 23rd end. Chris Williams, Joe Greco and Kelvin Hubble all supported their skipper in a very stylish display that they won 33-15. John Hausler took on Wayne Gribble. John led 23-6 on the 18th end then lost shots in cheap time at the end of the game. John’s team still won 26-19 in a very solid display. Phil Denham was on fire for the first half of his game against Tim Gribble. The Shepparton Golf team were able to wrest the initiative from Phil’s team to lead 18-17 on the 23rd end. An exhausted Phil came to the rescue again and they won 20-18. Chris Preddy’s team found a side that was very strong up front. Chris’s team rallied from 8-27 to only allow Shepparton Golf 2 singles over the last 10 ends to help with the overall score and grab a place in the grand final.
Division 4 faced Seymour VRI in a tough encounter at Mooroopna. Bob Canute’s team were the standouts with “Nifty” Neville Walters, Helen Chapman and Graham King all in good form. Someone in the know suggested that Neville was playing up to the family who were spectating, but this couldn’t be true. Bob’s team won 25-16 in a grand display. Daryl Gade’s team had the lead 18-8 after the 17th end and were travelling well. Seymour, however, had other thoughts and fought back hard. Daryl hung on to win 23-21. In a game that only saw ones and twos scored for the whole game Nardo DiPetta’s team lost by six after a slow start that saw them down 0-5. Nardo’s team rallied to only trail 11-12 on the 16th end when VRI took over again and won 20-14. Ted Hazelman’s team had an awful day at the office. They clawed their way back to 13-17 from 3-12 on the 18th end only to have VRI pull away again and win 32-15.
Division 6 won on all rinks at Royal Avenal to advance to the preliminary next week. After “Coach Captain” Bob Mason delivered them safely to the battleground they worked very well as a complete team to win all rinks with a 65-54 overall score. Not only did Bob Mason drive well but he led his team to a match winning 23-17 scoreline over Maree Ash. Geoff Hocking‘s team were down the gurgler on the 15th end 10-19. With Howard Tonkin, John MacFadyen and Geoff Coad all lifting they ran over Dan Oster to win 22-19. Ray Harrison’s side had the close one. After trailing 11-16 on the 14th end, they led 17-16 on the 17th end. Ray’s team fell behind again to be 17-18 on the 19th end, then powered home to win 20-18.

Wayne’s team started slowly then changed gears on the seventh end where they grabbed four shots. From there they were never headed, winning most of the ends and scoring heavily to win 30-18. Team MacFadyen played well throughout their game. They led 16-14 on the twelfth end then quietly slipped away from their opposition. Scoring five shots on the twenty-second end sealed the game and they won 32-23. Nardo DiPetta’s team led 15-8 on the fourteenth end and were playing well. Their opposition came back hard and on the twenty-third end they trailed 17-21. Two singles to finish the game saw Nardo’s team go down 19-21 but still a glorious victory for Division 3.
Division 1’s game was close all day with Shepparton Golf getting home by 5 shots. Mary Greco and her team of Rob Anset, Joe Greco and Lee Beattie played well for the majority of the game on a tricky rink. They led 18-15 on the twentieth end then snatched four shots and two shots to lead 24-15. Unfortunately, Mary’s team dropped six shots on the twenty-third end but still won 26-23. Chris Preddy’s team had a ding dong battle with John Stokes. The scores and the bowls were close all day with Chris winning 21-20 at the finish. Jenni Dixon’s team led 12-9 on the thirteenth end and were going well. From there they could only win three more ends to go down 18-27.
Division 2 played a strong Shepparton Park side at Hilltop. Phil Denham’s team got off to a flyer and led 13-0 on the sixth end. Heath Mathews team clawed its way back into the game and only trailed 14-15 on the sixteenth end. Phil’s team then rallied and went on to win convincingly 24-17. Maurie’s team stuck at it all day but could not match Shepparton Park and went down 12-26.
