The Bocce Raffa League is a new competition that focuses on the Raffa style of play, characterised by powerful shots to hit and displace opponents balls or the jack.
After finishing on top of the standings, Kyabram faced Morwell in the grand final showdown.
Tony Borrelli, who has represented Australia internationally, was a standout throughout the competition and in the final, tallying 39 points and being named Player of the Series.
Maria Greco was also a strong guiding force for Kyabram, with the veteran player flexing her national team experience in the final.
Kyabram had the advantage of playing the final on home soil, hosting Morwell at Ky Bocce Club and eventually taking down the visitor convincingly 8-4 on Saturday, December 13.
The two sides had to play numerous disciplines in the final such as singles, doubles, triples and precision throw, with Kyabram dominating each.
Kyabram Bocce Club treasurer Giuseppe “Joe” Greco reflected on the final, stating how proud he was of the team for bringing the inaugural championship to the Fauna Park town.
“It was really great,” he said.
“We didn't think that we were going to get there because we were playing against international players that have been going overseas and got gold medals.
“But, we ended up beating them on our own playing on our own turf here which made a big difference.
“It was really great to see our players come up winners, they were led by some strong players, Mary (Maria Greco) has represented Australia overseas a number of times and so has Tony Borelli, who is a champion player that’s represented Australia overseas.
“So, we had two international players initially at home and two novice players who have come up through the ranks.
“We had some pretty strong pedigree mixed in with some grassroots talent, so everything’s looking well for next year.”
