Kyabram landed its second Cricket Shepparton T20 silverware in emphatic style on Sunday with an eight-wicket demolition of Shepparton United in the final at Kyabram.

A big crowd witnessed the Kyabram bowlers dismiss United in 16.1 overs for 81 before its batsmen led by man of the match Kaine Herbert covered this score in 11.1 overs.

Herbert dominated the United attack, making a dashing 50 off 28 balls with 5 fours and three sixes to thrill the large crowd.

Herbert and Kyle Mueller, who shared a 138-run stand the previous day in the Haisman Shield competition, wiped off the 57 runs needed to win in a third-wicket stand after Kyabram had lost openers Billy McLay and Kyle Fitzgerald cheaply.

In Shepparton United’s innings all seven Kyabram bowlers used took a wicket with Kain Herbert’s 2/1 off one over the best return.

In an interview after the game Herbert said he felt the club was “building up to something special”.

Kyabram won its way into the decider with a win over Central Park-St Brendan’s at Shepparton’s Deakin Reserve on Tuesday night of last week.

Batting first Kyabram compiled 8/170 with Kyle Mueller with 52 with six fours and three sixes, opener Kyle Fitzgerald (27), Jayden Tucker (28) and Darin Ohlsen (26) providing the bulk of the runs.

The game went down to the last over with CP/SB’s needing 10 off the last six balls bowled by Kaine Herbert, but came up five runs short.
