The Blue Tree Project is an initiative begun in 2019 that paints dead trees blue to spark conversations and break down stigma surrounding mental health.
The golf club will paint one of its trees on the course blue in solidarity with the organisation on Sunday, September, 14 with a charity golf day also on offer.
Proceedings will begin with a $5 barbecue at 11.30am, with golfers congregating at noon for a 12.30pm start.
The single stableford round of golf entry fee is $15, with handicap, non-handicap and non-members welcome.
The club is teaming up with Warren ‘The Unbreakable Farmer’ Davies, a leading mental health advocate and speaker in rural communities, for the event.
Kyabram Parkland Golf Club committee member Naomi Cartwright highlighted the importance of the event to the community and the club.
“Painting a blue tree instigates conversations about mental health So, we thought the golf course is a perfect home for one,” she said.
“People, not just golfers, walk the course and then they’ll go, ‘Oh, what’s the blue tree for?’ So, it might create a bit of conversation to get people talking.
“A lot of members in the club are going through health journeys currently, and we felt it was important that as a community, we support them to let them know that they’re not alone, and they don’t have to keep things to themselves.
“Everyone is getting behind the event and the community, not just golfers, are invited down to come and have a drink and just a bit of a community Sunday afternoon gathering.”
