Lions celebrate a night of Champions

Mulwala Lions have wrapped up another strong campaign, with players from across the club’s football and netball teams recognised at the annual Best & Fairest night last week.

The club enjoyed a competitive season across all grades, with both football and netball producing plenty of strong performances throughout the Murray League season. The awards night gave the Lions an opportunity to acknowledge the players who made a significant contribution to their respective sides.

In the senior football ranks, Will Cookson added another major accolade to what has been a remarkable season. Cookson was named the Lions’ Senior Best & Fairest, following his success at league level earlier this month when he was crowned the Murray League’s best and fairest player.

It capped a memorable period for Cookson, whose consistent performances throughout the season saw him recognised as one of the competition’s standout players while also earning the top individual honour at his own club.

Over in netball, Steph Hammond was recognised for her efforts in A Grade, taking home the Best & Fairest award following an impressive season. Hammond was a key contributor for the Lions throughout the campaign, with her award reflecting the impact she had across the year.

The night saw players from across the club’s various grades acknowledged, with awards recognising consistency, improvement, coaching staff and the overall contribution of individuals to their teams.

For the Mulwala Lions, the evening was a fitting conclusion to a season that showcased the depth and talent within the club. It also allowed players, coaches and volunteers to come together and acknowledge the work that goes into building competitive football and netball teams across the Murray League.
