The former Kyabram junior and Tongala footballer playing as a punter for Miami Hurricanes at Miama’s Hard Rock Stadium on Tuesday last week copped some criticism when his punt was blocked for a touchdown deep in his own half in the battle with Indiana Hoosiers.
The incident was described as ‘‘heartbreaking for Dylan’’ who had been credited with keeping his side in the contest with his booming punts in the first half.
The Indiana Hoosiers, who had former Collingwood rookie Mitch McCarthy playing with them, beat Joyce’s Miami Hurricanes 27-21 to claim Indiana’s first college football national championship.
Bad luck Dylan, but we are still proud of you.
Joyce is not the only former Kyabamite and former Tongala footballer playing as a punter in the highly-competitive college competition in the US at the moment.
McKenzie Ryan is currently in his second season of a four-year contract playing with the Indiana Warhawks in the same competition, but his team missed the finals.

In this column last week I listed former KDCA players who had the honour of representing Victoria in national country cricket championships in the modern era.
The history lesson was sparked by Kyabram cricketer Kyle Mueller’s recent feat of being Victoria’s top run getter and second top run maker at the national country cricket championship in Western Australia.
Kyabram’s Mueller and Steve Bubb, Tongala’s Brad Campbell, Jamie Murphy and Greg Pearse and Stanhope’s Mark Divine are the other KDCA players from the modern era who have represented their state.
Campbell (twice) Bubb, Murphy and Divine also gained All Australian honours.
But a former KDCA who won a Big V cap representing Victoria Country dates back 116 years when Kyabram’s R. Doidge and Lancaster’s Alex Thomson had the honour in 1910.
Tongala’s JR English in 1925 was next to earn the honour before a gap of 32 years until Tongala’s gun wicketkeeper Jim Ogden (1957) became the next KDCA player to represent his state.

Former Kyabram and Tatura footballer Brad Ryan is to play with Ovens and Murray side Yarrawonga this season.
Ryan is currently playing with Pint in the AFL Darwin competition.
In his time at Tatura Ryan was one of the best defenders in the GVL and represented the league in interleague football.
Brad Ryan will line up for Ovens and Murray club Yarrawonga in season 2026.
