The Wahgunyah Recreation Reserve was alive on Saturday, July 5, as the Wahgunyah Football Netball Club proudly featured Indigenous Round as part of a special celebration for NAIDOC Week.

Against Dederang Mount Beauty Football Netball Club, the day was not simply just a sporting event — it was an uplifting celebration of culture, community, and connection.
Since the arrival of the crowd, it was clear that last Saturday was going to be a day to remember.
Kaitlyn, Delilah, Willow, Emily and Savannah Robinson getting behind the NAIDOC cause with their guernseys and scrunchies celebrate the day at the Wahgunyah netball courts.
WFNC players in every grade ventured onto the netball court and footy field in their stunning Indigenous - printed netball dresses, football guernseys, and warm-up tees. A strong and proud visual demonstration of respect and recognition.
A huge thank you to Cass Bennett, who led coordination of the event with the help of the Wahgunyah FNC committee members, who worked tirelessly behind the scenes. Their organisation and commitment ensured a smooth day and respectfully acknowledged the significance of NAIDOC Week.
Special thanks also to Wayne Johnstone and his crew, who beautifully painted the football oval's centre circle with the Indigenous flag — a striking centrepiece and symbol of togetherness.
The Under 15s display their Indigenous inspired dresses and training tops designed by Gary Saunders before their match.
The Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony prior to the senior game was an emotional and special moment, beginning with Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony conducted by Nicki James.
The ceremony was brought to the next level by the deep boom of didgeridoo sound rendered by Keiren, indicating a day of celebration, reflection, and pride.
The WFNC 2025 Indigenous Round was not just about football or netball. It was about acknowledging the resilience, culture, and heritage of First Nations people.
A big thank you to everyone who made the day such a success.
The Aboriginal, Australian and Torres Strait Island flags were on display as well as the centre circle being painted into the Aboriginal flag for the event.
