Paul Newman broke a run of outs and propelled Kyabram into the second week of Cricket Shepparton’s Haisman Shield finals with a magnificent century on Saturday.

The elegant left-hander caressed and slammed 108 off 123 balls to help Kyabram reach 5/184 off its 45 overs against Central Park St Brendans, who held top spot on the ladder until the final home-and-away round.
In reply in the showdown at Shepparton’s Deakin Reserve Kyabram dismissed Central Park St Brendans for 128 to book a preliminary final spot against Numurkah this Saturday at Kyabram.
Newman had made a total of 46 in his previous four knocks but rose to the occasion.
Newman and Billy McLay (13) got Kyabram away to a solid start with an opening stand of 65 after Kyabram had won the toss and elected to bat.
Newman and captain Kyle Mueller, who made 40, shared in a 95-run stand for the third wicket to set up Kyabram’s healthy total.
Newman’s knock contained seven fours and three sixes in a 150-minute stay at the crease.

Kyabram’s bowlers then dictated the terms to the combine batsmen who were never in a position to win the game.
Kyabram’s pace attack of Jackson and Charlie McLay did the most damage with the ball with three-wicket hauls and Darin Ohlsen chipped in with two wickets as CPSB fell in 37.1 overs for 128.

The McLays dismissed the combine’s first six batsmen including their main batting hope Tyler Larkin, who fell to Jackson for 16.
Kyabram now progresses to the semi-finals against Numurkah, which inflicted Waaia’s first loss for the season on Sunday.
For heading the ladder at the conclusion of the home-and-away season Waaia gets another chance and will meet reigning premier Mooroopna in the other semi-final at Mooroopna.
Mooroopna eliminated Nagambie from the finals fight with a comfortable elimination final win on Sunday.
Both the Waaia-Numurkah and Mooroopna-Nagambie clash were postponed to Sunday due to overnight rain.
• Kyabram’s B grade side is also through to the preliminary final after a five wickets win over Tatura.
Chasing Tatura’s score of 7/126, Kyabram was battling at 5/67 but Lukas Hanslow and Jaydin Fitzgerald stepped up to steer Kyabram to victory.
Hanslow cracked three fours and two sixes on his way to an unbeaten 33 and Fitzgerald scored 30 not out with two boundaries and two sixes in an unbroken sixth wicket stand of 75 as Kyabram covered Tatura’s score in 32.5 overs.

Opener Tim Nelson did best of the top order batsman with 23 and shared an opening stand of 36 with Jason Parsons, who made 16.
Heath Fiddock with an unbeaten 45 and veteran opener Rohan Forster (29) were the most productive Tatura batsmen while Damian Parsons and Nick Chambers each with two wickets were the most successful Kyabram bowlers.

• Kyabram’s C grade side bowed out of the flag fight after a heavy loss to Invergordon in Sunday’s elimination final at Shepparton East.
Led by Lachlan Gilligan with a century, Invergordon piled up 7/250 runs and in reply Kyabram was bowled out for 90.
Daniel Anderson (29), Ross Brown (21) and Noah Ryan (14) were the only batsmen to reach double figures.
