Travelling to Violet Town Recreation Reserve, it didn’t take long for Lancaster to assert its dominance in the match.
Despite some inaccuracy in front of goal, the Wombats still notched 2.7 to its score, which wasn’t under threat as Violet Town could only find one behind in the opening quarter.
The second period was a more successful attacking stretch for both sides, as Lancaster continued building on its lead with a 3.3 effort, while the Towners were able to kick a pair of goals to juice their score.
It was once again slow-going for Violet Town in the third term, with the side just finding one behind.
Meanwhile, the Wombats went from strength to strength, pushing its lead out to 50 with a quarter remaining.
Things went from bad to worse for the Towners as they added 1.1 to finish their day, while Lancaster laid waste, booting 6.4 in their most productive portion on the game.
While it was a fairly ordinary kicking game for the Wombats, who ended with 14.21 (105), their defensive game shone, holding the sixth-placed Towners to just 3.4 (22).
Charlie McLay led the way in front of goal for the Wombats with four maximums to his name.
Lancaster coach Nick Ryan reflected on the match, and highlighted the efforts of not just specific players, but the entire team.
“Violet Town is a top-end team, they have recruited well and through the middle of the ground they were difficult to compete with, but our boys spread across the ground and got on top of them there,” he said.
“I think for us, we had all of our 21 players putting in big contributions across the entire game.
“It was definitely a collective effort across the ground from our whole side with the likes of usual standouts Thomas Davies, Cameron Simpson and Adam Lovison really pulling their weight.
“The defensive efforts of Black McAuliffe and Ryan Hatch was great to see and is the reason why we recruited them.”
Ryan also reflected on the state of Lancaster’s season so far and looked ahead to its round seven match at home against Longwood.
“I’m happy with how things are going so far, like most sides, we’ve had a few injuries which have hampered us a little bit and had some questions about depth, but we’ve had a few players step up and make the leap into seniors which has been great for us,” he said.
“Looking ahead to next week against Longwood, we will have some players missing, but we are backing our depth to come through and play well, so there will be plenty of opportunities for some guys to prove themselves.”
