Paul Parsons turned back the clock with a century as Kyabram got itself on Cricket Shepparton Haisman Shield’s winning list on Saturday.
Opening the innings, Parsons plundered 114 off 105 balls to help Kyabram reach a healthy 7-243 in its clash at the Kyabram Recreation Reserve against Tatura.
Parsons, who holds the record for the highest score ever by a Kyabram District Cricket Association player at Melbourne Country Week, hit the ball sweetly throughout his innings and was involved in three valuable partnerships.
He shared an opening stand of 43 with Billy McLay, who made 22, 50 for the third wicket with Kyle Mueller (24) and then 111 for the fourth wicket with Cade Mueller, the second top scorer in the Kyabram innings with 49, which included four boundaries and a six.
Parsons was at the crease while Kyabram put on 221 runs.
Blake Armstrong with 3-54 off nine overs and Tom Vibert with 3-38 off seven overs were the only multiple wicket-takers for the visitors.
Kyabram’s attack, led by Charlie McLay, Angus McKenzie and Louis Sabbagh-Holt, took just 24 overs to bundle Tatura out for 94, with skipper Jayden Armstrong’s 18 the top score.
McLay took 3-36 and McKenzie 3-31, both off nine overs, while ’keeper Ethan Hart was involved with the first four Tatura dismissals, a run-out and then three catches.
Kyabram takes on Northerners at Tallygaroopna this Saturday.
Kyabram’s B-grade side also drew blood for the first time for the season with a comprehensive win over Tatura.
Against the Kyabram attack led by Lukas Hanslow, who took 4-14 off nine overs and Matt McDonald with 2-29, only Baxter Plunkett (28), Peter Watt (28) and Matt Cornwall (13) reached double figures for Tatura.
Kyabram’s batsmen reached their target in 17 overs for the loss of only two wickets, with openers Troy Thomson with 41 and Kyle Fitzgerald with 36 showing the way with a stand of 68.
Then Tim Nelson, with an unbeaten 19, polished off the runs needed to secure the premiership points.
Kyabram’s E-grade side was never in the hunt against Mooroopna.
Skipper and opener Mark Coates made a fighting 26, but got little support as Kyabram was bowled out in 23 overs for 74.
Mooroopna lost one wicket in covering this score.
