The Kyabram Parkland Golf Club juniors were among 100 golfers who vied for the scholarships, with 12 winning places in the squad.
· Teenage squash ace Simon Lucas won a spot in the Victorian team for the national junior titles, the 15-year-old sealing his spot on the team at the state titles.
The Year 9 St Augustine’s College student won two qualification events in the lead-up to selection and had the Australian Championships in his sights, with the 2014 Commonwealth Games firmly as a long term goal.
· Two of Kyabram’s favourite footballers, Chris Atkins and Josh Vick, were celebrating milestones.
Vick was playing his 100th senior game and Atkins his 200th, the later a two-time best-and-fairest and a part of the 1995 under-18 premiership.
Vick was in his third season as captain of the club and won the best-and-fairest in the first of those years as team leader.

Among the stars of that competition were Sara Pettifer, Skye Gill and Rebecca Emmett.
1989

The sporting family had a proud tradition in a variety of sports in the town.

After a knee reconstruction in 1986 Shanahan coached the thirds team in 1987 and was a regular smiling face for Kyabram shoppers at Hilton’s Retravision.
1979
Fay Gollan won the Valley View Associates championship when she beat Bess Wood for the honour.
She won the award after winners of the last 10 years, Lorraine Gemmill and Glenda Prior, were unavailable to compete in the event.
It was her first championship win, clinched on the second last hole of a play-off event.
· Lancaster ruckman Keith Argus, a former star of the Goulburn Valley League with Tongala, was named the Player of the Month for his outstanding performances with the Wombats.
He won the award by 18 votes from Rob Ferguson and Algie Tonkin, accepting the prize from another Lancaster star in Noel Reddrop — an employee of Hilton’s Retravision.

The Kyabram Apex Club Sportstar of the Year winner for 1976-77 was one of two Victorians selected in the team and at 21 years old was one of the best marksmen in the country.
Trevor gained his initial interest in the sport through an involvement with Kyabram High School’s Outdoor Club, an initiative of former teacher Pat Anderson.
