The reunion will be an opportunity to reunite and reminisce about champion teams from Deniliquin’s cricketing past including from the 2010-2011 season where the Juniors Combine team defeated Mathoura.
Reporting on the game in the Pastoral Times read as follows:
Junior effort: Combine defeats Mathoura to claim A-grade premiership
Resistance from the Juniors Combine tail effectively ended Mathoura’s chance of claiming its first Deniliquin District Cricket Association A-grade premiership since 1990-91.
The Cutters were crippled even before the third and final day had started at Memorial Park on Saturday.
Key batsman Darrel Holgate was forced to withdraw after injuring himself at work during the week, while Jayden Vesty was unavailable with work commitments.
The Juniors tailend didn’t make life any easier for the Cutters having posted 83 runs for the last four wickets.
Middle order batsman Dave Leetham was again hero.
With Mathoura missing two fielders, the talented left hander finished on 55, backing up the 58 he scored in the first innings.
Chris Maher was also inspirational with 24 from the ninth batting position.
Together the pair put on 64 runs for the eighth wicket.
The Cutters needed 245 for victory with just nine batsmen at their disposal.
With Holgate out, the minor premiers were looking for someone other than regular mainstays Brodie Bennett and Rick Ireland to stand up.
However, the under strength side was dismissed 51 runs short of the target after 42 overs.
Final score: Juniors Combine 168 and 167 def Mathoura 91 and 194.
