Following his six-wicket haul in the opening round win over Nagambie, opener Billy McLay batted through the innings for an unbeaten 97 as Kyabram posted a respectable 3/231 off its 45 overs.
Skipper Kyle Mueller, who made 89 in the opening round against Nagambie, was again among the runs with 73 in a 123-run third-wicket stand with McLay.
McLay faced 140 deliveries in a 175-minute stay at the batting crease and hit eight boundaries.
Mueller faced 78 balls and hit eight fours and one six.
But Northerners, led by Joel and Mitch Brett and Nick Breslin, rose to the occasion to round up Kyabram’s score in 38.2 overs.
Joel Brett made a superb unbeaten 113 off just 97 balls, with 11 fours and two sixes, and shared a second-wicket stand of 122 with Mitch Brett, who made 50 with eight fours.

Kyabram used seven bowlers, with Kyle Mueller (2/44) the only multiple wicket taker.
Kyabram will be looking to bounce back this Saturday when it travels to Shepparton to take on Old Students.
Kyabram’s B grade side also suffered a loss at the hands of Northerners in a high-scoring, tense battle at Tallygaroopna.
The home side posted 194, with Tyson Sidebottom contributing 74, and in reply Kyabram came up one run short after a gallant last-wicket stand almost pinched the game.
Riley Morris and Kanwal Singh came together for the last wicket when Kyabram needed 29 runs to win and came up a run short when Morris was run out for 21 on the second last ball of the game.
Former Cooma player Tom Holman, playing his first game with the club, was the most successful Kyabram bowler, with 3/41 off six overs.
Kyabram’s C grade side also went down, suffering a four-wicket loss to Karramomus.
