The Redbacks struggled to find runs in their batting innings and were unable to keep the opposition in check when it came time to bowl.
Kyabram won the toss in the Thursday evening fixture at Mooroopna Recreation Reserve and decided to try its hand with the willow first.
Keeping wickets intact was the priority early on and both openers, Melissa Parsons and Cathy Dervish, had significant stays at the crease.
However, when it came time to think about run rate, Dervish was the first to fall, the Redbacks 1-20.
Rebecca Bowles entered with a determined mindset and kick-started the innings, while Parsons held her nerve at the other end.
The pair moved along nicely, adding 38, but the double blow of Parsons’ (17) retirement and Bowles’ (25) wicket threw the Redbacks off balance.
The remaining five overs saw the middle order accumulate steadily, but the sense was a total of 3-73 was a little short of a competitive score.
Eight bowlers had a crack with the ball for Mooroopna, Mia Earl (1-5) and Poppy Vandermeer (1-9) the wicket takers.
The host then demonstrated its batting quality in the second innings, Kyabram unable to make a breakthrough to slow Mooroopna’s momentum.
Openers Ebony Sleeth (36) and Vandemeer (26) got their side most of the way to the total, before retirement forced them to give way.
Ava Wood (4 not out) and Alyse O’Connell (1 not out) then finished things off, Mooroopna besting the Redbacks’ score in 11 overs.
Ky threw the ball to seven different players without success, Morgan Parsons 0-4 the most economical effort.
The competition will resume for round nine on January 10 and 11, the Redbacks hosting Nagambie at Kyabram Recreation Reserve on Sunday, January 11.
