Kyabram missed out on a maximum premiership points win against Euroa on Saturday in Cricket Shepparton’s Haisman Shield competition despite a top bowling effort by Tom Holman.
In his first game for the season Holman took 5/24 off 13.5 overs to help Kyabram dismiss Euroa in its first innings for 106 in reply to Kyabram’s mammoth 4/407 score on the opening day.
Holman was best supported by young English spinner Louis Sabbagh-Holt with 2/31 off 13 overs and bowling spearhead Jackson McLay with 1/17 off nine tight overs as Kyabram bowled out Euroa in 44.5 overs.
But Euroa’s batsmen put up a much better fight in its second innings to reach 5/84 and thwart Kyabram’s bid for a maximum points win.
Holman picked up 2/11 off eight overs to claim seven scalps on the day.
Kyabram now faces second top side Central Park St Brendan’s in a two-day game starting at Deakin Reserve Shepparton this Saturday.
The Redbacks need another win to stay in finals contention.
It currently sits in ninth place on the ladder, eight premiership points from sixth placed Numurkah.
Kyabram’s B grade side, which was holding a handsome lead over Euroa on the first innings, was successful in securing maximum points on Saturday.
Euroa posted 153 in its second innings despite a four wicket haul from Troy Thomson leaving Kyabram 61 to get in its second innings which it achieved in 14.5 overs.
Opener Jason Leocata with an unbeaten 25 steered Kyabram to the maximum points win which has it now sitting in second place on the ladder.
Unfortunately, Kyabram’s E grade side which was the strongest on paper so far this season didn’t get a game with its rival Murchison forfeiting.
