The Redbacks won the toss on their home ground of Kyabram Recreation Reserve and elected to bat first in the evening fixture on Thursday.
Openers Melissa Parsons and Sarah Chaston proved resilient, staying together for the first nine overs.
Parsons was responsible for most of the scoring, keeping the run rate ticking over, while Chaston focused on remaining at the crease.
Chaston would retire not out on 7, starting a minor slide for Ky as two wickets fell in quick succession.
Parsons remained the anchor and hung around until the 15th over, when Dianne Poole breached her defences, the Redbacks opener eventually departing for 32.
Penny Mason was the other significant contributor to the innings, making 12 not out in the later overs as the Redbacks reached 4-88 from their 20 overs.
SYCU shared the four wickets evenly, but Mel Saunders (1-5) had the best figures.
Kyabram’s bowlers started well, removing Poole for 7, but the introduction of Saunders at three started to turn the tide.
She moved quickly to reel in the target, scoring at more than a run a ball, and Phoebe Hawker (7) managed to stay with her as they pushed the total to 43.
Extras also started to take their toll and SYCU reached 60 only two down.
Eliza Linehan and Emma Roberts made two quick breakthroughs, including the crucial wicket of Saunders (28), to give Ky hope it may hang on.
Unfortunately for the Redbacks, there was enough time left in the game for Isabella Chandler (1 not out) and Lia Beecroft (12 not out) to guide SYCU home with two overs and a ball to spare, 4-89.
Along with Roberts and Linehan, captain Grace Hammond was also among the wickets, while the team put together a run out to remove Hawker.
In the other of the weekend’s fixtures, Nagambie got over Mooroopna by four wickets.
Kyabram remains winless through four rounds and will visit Mooroopna Recreation Reserve on Saturday morning for its next contest.
