Redbacks third after defending small total

Kyabram bowlers led by Kaine Herbert then dismissed Nagambie for 103 runs to claim its fourth successive win from five games.

Kyabram had only five batsmen to reach double figures with first drop Billy Mclay’s 29 the top contribution in a sorry scoreline.

Nagambie’s import Jeewan De Silva struck the heaviest blow when he bowled Kyabram skipper Kyle Mueller for 15, while opener Paul Parsons (19), Kaine Herbert (10) and Ohlsen (23) were the only other Kyabram batsmen to post double-figure scores.

De Silva playing only his third game for the club picked up 3/17 off nine overs and was well supported by Mark Nolan, Brock Boddington and Brayden Biggs all with two wickets.

Kyabram bowlers were always going to be under the pump trying to restrict the visiting batsmen to a losing score, but early wickets to Jackson McLay, Angus McKenzie and Adam Nunn kept their side in contention.

Then spinner Kaine Herbert struck three times and Charlie Mclay twice to keep the wickets tumbling and bring off the unlikely win.

Zac Winter-Irving proved the main snag for the Kyabram bowlers with a patient 36, but when he was the ninth wicket to fall the end came swiftly for the visitors.

Kyabram has another home game this Saturday hosting Euroa.

– Kyabram’s B-grade side held Mooroopna to 161 runs and its batsmen were then up to the challenge by scoring a two-wicket win with 4.1 overs to spare.

Tom Holman starred with the ball for Kyabram with his nine overs yielding four wickets at the economical cost of 21 runs.

He was well supported by spinner Alec Young with 3/23 and Beau Metcalf with 2/25.

Kyabram then steadily picked off the runs needed to win with opener Jason Parsons (24), Alec Young (24), Ethan Hart (21), Tom Holman (22) and Jason Leocata (15 not out) all making contributions.
