Rochy 3561 competed in the section 7 women’s group, facing teams from regions as varied as Ballarat, Nathalia, Loddon Valley, Mount Prospect, Frankston and Wodonga.
Rochy 3561 finished top of the ladder after first facing each opponent once in a round-robin style format, dropping only six sets and registering 35 points across the seven rounds.
In the semi-final, Rochy eased past the Spin Doctors 28-17 on games before winning the final with a dominant display against Hit the Dance Floor from Tennis Ballarat, triumphing 24-13.
Rochester Tennis Club’s Kate Lee played a major role in the decider, as she and Mel Haines paired up to win two sets by a combined game total of 16-8.
Haines was a stand-out for Rochy, winning 15 of the 16 sets she played in.
She formed a strong partnership with Lois Toohey, with the duo also being teammates at the Echuca Tennis Club.
Haines and Toohey played as a doubles pair six times, winning all six sets and the overall games tally against their opponents 44-14.
Another impressive feat was that of 72-year-old Jan Clymo, who returned from a year-long break from tennis to compete for Rochy, winning a set alongside Haines against the Wodonga Miss Hits.
“I love how we have so many laughs and just really enjoy every moment on and off court,” Clymo said.
“It takes me a while to recover, but it is always worth it."
The team from Rochester has participated in Country Week for the past six years, with Clymo having attended for 40 years, and Lee and Haines for over 25.
"Playing tennis with some of your best friends is what makes Country Week,“ Haines said.
“The friendships made over the years is what keeps you going back, and to finally get a win was the most incredible feeling.”
