Returning home from its road trip, Girgarre hosted Violet Town in round seven, a side that has quietly been going about its business in 2025.
This nice run of form continued against the Kangaroos, with the Towners opening their account with a 4.3 effort in attack while locking down the hosts on defence.
The Kangaroos finally got their first goal of the match in the second period, but it was their lone scoring effort before half-time, while Violet Town, who weren’t exactly dead-eye in front of goal (1.8), extended their lead to 34 at the major break.
Something clicked for Girgarre over the half-time spell because it romped back into the contest in a big way throughout the third term, nailing 5.4 on its way back into the match.
Meanwhile, the Towners, who were still getting plenty of chances, didn’t convert as often as they’d like, settling for 2.2 before three-quarter time.
With just 14 points separating the two sides heading into the final frame, it looked to be a decisive and perhaps season-altering quarter for both sides.
Yet, the mystique of a potential comeback win for the Kangaroos remained just that, as the hosts could only find the middle of the sticks once down the stretch.
Violet Town, on the other hand, rallied to produce 4.1 in the fourth, finally figuring out its kicking concerns to walk away with a 33-point victory.
The final score was Girgarre 7.5 (47) to Violet Town 11.14 (80).
Byron Dryden was the only Roo to kick more than one goal for the match (2) and was ultimately awarded best-on-ground for his contributions.
Girgarre will have a good opportunity to snap its losing streak in round eight when the side travels to Longwood Recreation Reserve to take on the Redlegs.
