The Kyabram quick bowler was the main reason behind Kyabram hoisting Cricket Shepparton’s top team trophy, the Haisman Shield, a lot earlier than expected at the weekend.
The paceman ripped through a capable Waaia batting line-up with a five wicket haul, which won him the Greg Luscombe Man of the Match award in a photo-finish from his skipper Kyle Mueller.
Langley had also won the same award earlier in the season in Cricket Shepparton’s one-day competition flag win.
Langley said both these premierships were something he had never experienced previously after he had started playing cricket as a junior with the Cooma Cricket Club.
‘‘I was out at Cooma for about 13 years, starting in the juniors when I was about seven years old.
‘‘I’ve played the previous three seasons with Bendigo United over in the Bendigo comp and when I joined Ky this year I had never played in a final let alone a premiership side,’’ said Langley after Sunday’s win.
Langley has spent the last two Australian winters playing cricket in the UK which obviously has given a mighty boost in his rise to a match-winning pace bowler.
‘‘When I got home this year, I wasn’t quite sure what I was going to do, and Ky got in touch.’’
The rest is history, and a lot of it has been created by himself with his deeds with the cricket ball at Katandra last weekend.
