On their home turf the Blues were no match for the visitors who grabbed second place with a 63 points win, 18.22 to 8.7.
And as the final scores suggested only a bigger defeat was avoided due to Mulwala’s inaccuracy at the goal front.
This was evident in the last half when the visitors kicked 7 goals and a frustrating 18 behinds.
The only quarter Tongala wasn’t blown away was in the second term in which it kicked 3.3 to Mulwala’s 5.2.
‘‘We were well below full strength and concentrated more on getting our reserves into the finals, but they were just too good, slick for us,’’ Tongala skipper Kyle Fitzgerald said.
Tongala was best served by midfielders Jack Hammond, Bailey Waasdorp and Jack Sinclair while on-baller Cam Ilett and Fitzgerald in the ruck were also serviceable in a badly beaten side.
Max Trigwell was the best of the forwards.
In the reserves, Tongala comfortably handled Mulwala 13.6 (84) to 8.5 (53).
The Lions looked good early and led after the first quarter, but the Blues surged ahead in the second and never looked back.
Posting a record of 10-8, Tongala finished sixth in the competition and will take on Cobram (16-2) in an elimination final in Deniliquin on Saturday alongside the other 3v6 contests.
The under-17s weren’t successful this week, going down 11.7 (73) to 6.1 (37), but the Blues will still look forward to a finals contest.
Tonny finished the year 11-7, good for fifth in the competition, and will battle Deniliquin Rams (13-5) in a 4v5 elimination semifinal in Congupna on Sunday.
The under-14s had a difficult outing against Mulwala, defeated 26.18 (174) to 1.0 (6).
The Blues will not feature in the post-season.
